Anyone know about induction?

Hope someone can help. My sister is 13 days overdue and her waters went on Tuesday evening after a sweep that day.

Today she had an appointment for induction that she kept as her contractions were still only hourly. They gave her some pills at 11.30 and were to review at 17.00hrs

We believe there has been no progress so they were either gonna repeat the pills or give syntocin.

My question is this how long is the birth usually after syntocin? And should we be more concerned that her waters have gone or that she is so overdue?

Just looking for some reassurance really about what is going on as the ward is really busy.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks Dink

the NICE guidlines say 96 hours from waters breaking before induction should commence...hopefully ,she is being allowed to move about and get some pressure on her cervix from the baby

no-one can say how long it will be from adminsitering syntocinon..2 hours or 10 hours! impossible to say....

13 days over is not terrible. , nor is it an issue her waters went on tuesday....do not panic.....baby is on the way!

Hi, I can only give you my experience with ds - there's no one answer to your question I'm afraid. My waters went at term+12, had synt put up about 36hrs later and about 18 hours later had ds. But he was OP (back to back) and coming hand first, so not straight forward! As far as concern about the waters going in advance - the worry is about risk of infection, which is why they induce, but they didn't seem particularly fussed so long as the birth wasn't too long after the waters had gone. Hope everything goes well for her

I had syntocin & it took 6 hrs from the start to ds birth.. wasn't that bad & was quite controlled. ds was monitored all the time but move about even with drip

Thanks everybody for the reassurance. I guess we just have to sit and wait
