Second baby, first labour...

Hi all,

I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant with #2. DS1 was born via elective section due to being breech. Really hoping for a VBAC with this one.

Having a little paranoid moment though. My mums first labour was 6 hours long, her 2nd (me!) was 45 minutes. My sisters first labour was 4 hours long and her 2nd was 20 minutes (she had him on the bathroom floor!).

Now this is my 2nd baby but obviously first labour but still worried that my family obviously tend to have quick labours. I'm mainly worrying because the plan for when I go into labour is to get my MIL to pick up DS1 - she lives an hour away but could be a fair bit longer if there is traffic.

So I guess my questions are

  1. in your experience are your labours the same as your mums / sisters?
  2. will I have a quick second labour even though I never really had a first one?

Any other VBAC 2nd labour experiences would be great to hear too!

I'm pretty sure by posting this I've probably resigned myself to a 6 day slow labour ending up in another C-Section!!!

Mine were similar ish to one of my sisters but completely diff to my other 3 sisters. Tbh there are that many of us there was bound to be similarities between some of us.
I think alot depends on the babies position and that is a little affected by your hip shape so if your a similar build id think.similar labours are more likely.

Could you take your eldest to hospital with you and your mum meet you there instead?

Mine were similar.

Not sure about question 2, but I'd have a backup ready!

My mother had 6hr labour with me and 10hr labour with sister. I had an induction 16hr labour ending up in CS. It is not a rule that you follow your mothers labours

I just had my second baby 6 weeks ago - a VBAC following an ELCS for breech the first time. It was only 4 hours. My mum and nan have a history of quick labours!
