If men had babies instead of women, what would be different? I mean I can't decide if delivery wards would be full of men trying to get their chests puffed further out than their bellies saying 'pain relief? noo thank you, i'm a real man' or whether the whole preganacy, never mind delivery, would be 9 months of man flu.

I don't know, but I bet there'd be a whhhhoooooollllleeee lot more gadgets invented to do with pregnancy for them to buy. And probably a PS2 game about childbirth!

I think pain relief would be much more advanced! Apart from advances in epidurals (mobile etc) - the pain relief options we have available now aren't much different to the pain relief offered 30 odd years ago! I am convinced that if men gave birth there would be a wonder drug available that would make labour relaxed and pain free (without having to put a needle in the spine)!!!

I rekcon they'd have worked out a way to grow a baby in a fish-tank - then they could stick it beside their plasma screen and watch it grow over 9 months while they eat crisps and watch DVDs.....

9 months of man flu definitely

One thing's for sure; women would NEVER be allowed to forget their partners suffering. In fact our children would be referred to as things like 'Jack-who-caused-his-daddy-a-year-of-hell-and-he-may-never-quite-recover'

Lol. My hubby is convinced he had a harder time during the births of our girls than I did afterall I had pain relief (only gas and air is NOT what I call pain relief more pain dulling) and he didn't!!! God only knows what he'd be like if he were the one giving birth - we'd probably be childless .

Jenniebibs · 26/01/2007 11:36

I reckon there would be lots more comedy on TV and in the pub about placentas, e.g. 'You stupid placenta' 'Face like a placenta' etc

Ditto for episiotomies, lochia, and meconium

But as it is, dh can't stomach any childbirth-related humour and looks sick whenever the mw cracks a joke!

I reckon there would have been GIGANTIC steps in the research into Morning Sickness and how to cure it.

My DH says he could probably endure the pain of childbirth but he says he couldn't in a million, trillion years go through 20 weeks of puking 10-20 times a day.
