I am 33+1 today and on 18/1 (couple of days ago), i ended up at hospital with regular strong contractions, the doctor did some exams and took swabs and said i was in pre labour, the gave me 2 steroid injections (which did hurt for a second) they were given 12 hrs apart and they also out me on a drip to stop contractions because i was not dilated, they monitored my contractions for 12 hrs non-stop, and they calmed down a few hrs after they slowed they started again, but then stoped after about 4 hrs, has anyone been through this, if so was your labour imminant did anyone still go to term.

HELP PLEASE.

Yes, in both my labours. First one staretd at 37 weeks and second at 35. I would contract for 12/13 hours then they would just stop then start up again. In my first pregnancy I was in and out of hospital every few days, linked up to the machine, told I was in labour, discussed pain relief, have an internal find I wasn't dilated and then sent home. Because I was so late in pregnancy they didn't try to stop them. I went full term with both (40 weeks and 40+3). On the positive side, once I started dilating it was very fast (2.5 hours 1st time, 1.45 2nd).

Hope things improve for you.

This has just happened to my friend & her advice was that if she had not dilated which she was dilating with her contractions she can still carry to term, the danger is when you are dilating with the contractions.

my friend had this at 28 week, and again at 30 something weeks, but did go to term and had a healthy baby

it is so worrying though..

At my NCT group I was due the same day as another girl - we were both due last of the group. She had had pre labour at 30 weeks, been in hospital, injections etc so didn't expect to last the course.

As it turns out I had to have dd early (37 weeks) and she was the last, by far, going about 8 days overdue !

Good luck btw and if it does happen the baby has a v.v.v. good chance of being fine.

This happenned to me with both DS1 and DS2. With DS1 I'm pretty sure I had a UTI and started having contractions at 27 weeks - I was in hospital for 10 days (ick) then after much pleading came home on bed rest (promised not to get out of bed!) and lasted to 31 weeks. DS1 was in SCBU for 6 weeks and is now a strapping 3 1/2 year old and has had no complications.

The same thing happenned with DS2 - I had the steroids and drip to stop the contractions and managed to hold him in to 37 weeks. He is now a very strapping and cheeky almost 2 year old.

Good luck, stay calm and try to hold the baby in for as long as possible. The consultant did say to me that the aim was to get past 34 weeks (he also said this in the labour ward as I was about to give birth and was arm wrestled out of the delivery suite...).

Your baby has a really good chance, esp as has had the steroids to develop the lungs so try not to worry too much.

I am soooooo frustrated, i can't stand this, i feel like i need the loo all the time (number 2), it's really causing cramps but i'm not loose, not backed up either as i have been 4 times in 2 days (fairly normal actually) sorry if TMI.
