I have been booked for an ECV next week as my baby is breech. Any opinions and experiences :)

I think in your situation, given you won't be able to have a 'hands off' birth anyway, I'd go for the ELCS too.

I would just like to stick up for ECVs a bit though - in the right circumstances (and I understand I was lucky) they do prevent you from major surgery. My consultant just felt my bump, looked at the scan and said 'i've done 100's of these, and this is one which will turn, I can tell. And DS1 did - 30 seconds. I think you need an experienced consultant though.

I had one attempt at an ECV (they were willing to try three times) and it didn't work. After that DH said no more, it was the most painful thing I've ever done. DD was fine and her heart beat didn't even move. She (the consultant) gave us a 30% chance of it working, so it really wasn't surprising. I don't recommend them at all.

I wouldn't have one. If baby was breech I'd assume it might be for a reason eg the shape of my womb or where their cord is. I don't think I'd want to put either of us through it.

Yes, the dreaded itch!! It made me go a bit mad, actually.

Agree with what others have said about needing someone experienced with ECV - when I had my DD, I remember them saying - you can have a C section; go for a breech delivery (but we've not done one of them for 20 years) or we can try and turn her and it just so happens that the consultant who's really good at turning babies is here right now". Which did make a difference. Also I was having to decide what would happen RIGHT THEN and at that point, the doctor coming in and giving it a go vs rushing off to be sliced open without even trying seemed like the easier option. And I was already 7cm so there was no way DD was going to get a chance to turn back again (!! Which as others have said is a possibility if it's done at the normal time).

For you, different, because you can plan it and a planned c section is a different ball game.

Thank you for all your replies :) I have gone with my gut feeling and cancelled the ECV . I have a pre op on the 7th of June for my c section. Happy with the choice I've made. If my baby flips In the meantime I can go for induction earlier !
