Is labour imminent?

Hi all. I'm 40+1 weeks pg with my first baby and wondering with every twinge whether "this is it"? I have concluded each time that it's not but are these signs it is getting closer?
I've been having BH contractions but not regular - I usually have 3-4 then they stop but they are quite strong (not painful) when they happen. They woke me up last night.
Also getting various crampy lke pains from time to time and lots of pressure "down below", together with lots of pain in my pubic bone/pelvis.
I've also been cryng non-stop for no reason I can come up with for the last 2-3 days (although that might be out of frustration at the amount of people who keep ringing/texting to see if anything is happening - GRRR!
Anyway - I just wondered whether all of this could indicate that labour is imminent - as in next couple of days?

It's hard to tell, but it sounds like you're getting ready.

Hattie2 · 08/01/2007 17:01

daisyhun, you have just described exactly how I feel (I am 40+3 today). Please, please, please let it be signs that it's going to get going soon.

daisyhun · 08/01/2007 17:18

Hattie2 - fingers crossed! I am fed up feeling like a beached whale - sure you are too

Have just spent an hour sitting/bouncing on my gym ball but nothing has progressed yet!

Daisyhun and Hattie2- I'm 10 days overdue now so know what you are going through- it's a relief to know that other people are feeling as frustrated as me! Have also been bouncing on the birthing ball for the last hour. Now have back ache so am hoping that it's a sign that something may be happening. Fingers and toes are crossed for everyone!

MarsLady · 08/01/2007 18:09

Rest as much as you can girls. Not long at all!

Hattie2 · 08/01/2007 18:15

Thanks Mars, I really hope it's not long

lubeloo - 10 days over! Yikes, I can't imagine being here in another week still without a baby. Hope things get going for you soon.

Maybe I'll get the birthing ball out ......

MarsLady · 08/01/2007 18:17

And don't forget to start I'm in labour threads. Lulumama and I love those

lubeloo72 · 08/01/2007 18:19

Thanks Hattie2- hope I haven't depressed you further!

daisyhun · 09/01/2007 14:52

Well, no progress for me yet. I've booked a pregnancy massage treatment for Thursday morning in the hope that something may have happened before then. If not it'll be a nice way to relax anyway!

I'm off for a walk now to see if that helps.

yes ! i love a good labour thread! we haven;t had an online birth.....yet....

anyhoo..all those twinges and niggles are doing something as baby gets ready to be born and the cervix starts to move forward and soften..ready for labour....

also baby is moving down into the pelvis , hence all the pressure down below...your pelvis is more flexible hence the pain as it gets ready for birth, so all the pains and niggles are for a reason

but you can have a good cry..and a whinge..it always helps !

won;t be long xx

No progress here either - was convinced it was the 'real thing' yesterday evening as I had half a dozen contractions, 15 minutes apart, that were painful enough to have to stop what I was doing so not BH (I don't think) but then it all stopped and nothing since [confused face emoticon needed!]

daisyhun · 10/01/2007 17:07

Well I am feeling very frustrated now! Went to see midwife today and she offered to do an internal to check if anything was progressing and maybe do a sweep if possible (although a bit early at 40+3).

Turns out I am nowhere near - uneffaced and sweep not possible. I have to go back for a (hopefully more successful) sweep on Tuesday and then if nothing I will be induced at the end of next week.

That seems so far away!

Anyway, fingers crossed baby gets a move on over the weekend but I'm not really expecting it to now.

lots of sex and nipple stim in the meantime! get the cervix to start ripening and softening ! easier said then done at full term , i grant you !

a lot can change in a few days ! baby might need to cook a bit longer, 38 - 42 weeks is normal range for pregnancy, hard not fixate on 40 weeks though !

Hattie2 · 11/01/2007 12:07

Had a sweep this morning - am already 3cm dilated, so fingers crossed something will happen in the next 48 hours

lulumama · 11/01/2007 12:08

brilliant !!!!

make sure you keep posting !!

daisyhun · 15/01/2007 10:36

Well a week down te line I can safely answer my own queston of "Is labour imminent" with a resounding "No!".

I'm still here, no further forward and facing induction on Friday. I'm so uncomfortable - can't wait for this whole thing to be over (but then I guess the hard work will really begin).

No word on this thread from Hattie2 or Lubeloo - wonder if they have popped by now?

Rosylily · 15/01/2007 10:42

Ahh, hopefully you'll go into labour before friday but at least if not you know that come the weekend you'll have a baby! Yay!

Hattie2 · 15/01/2007 22:59

Threatening induction to this one worked a treat - he decided not to wait and was born in record time (2 hrs 10 mins from start of labour to birth!) at 01.40 this morning.

daisyhun · 16/01/2007 18:52

Fab news Hattie2! Congratulations!

I went for my second sweep today and still not effaced or dilated so it couldn't be done - induction booked for Saturday. So it will all be over soon - let's hope the threat of induction does the same for this little one and it decides to show its face before the weekend!

daisyhun · 03/02/2007 16:46

Hi - sorry this is a bit late but I finally went into labour hours before I was due to be induced so....

I would proudly like to announce the safe arrival of little Rose Margo who was born on Saturday 20 January at 9.28pm weighing 8lb 5oz.
