Anyone successfully had a VBAC with induction?

Last pregnancy was a planned ELCS due to a problem with my back at the time. I'm keen to try for a VBAC this time and have been told that I've got a good chance of it working for me if I go into spontaneous labour but that they wouldn't let me go over my due date or have an induction. Is this pretty standard advice?

I understand that induction can make chance of c-section and uterine rupture more likely, however I'm keen to let baby decide when to come this time.

Has anyone had luck with trying a VBAC after their due date?

I'm in the same boat having had an ELCS first time due to breech. I'm 29 weeks now and obviously hoping lightening won't strike twice so I can have a VBAC this time!

My hospital have said an induction is available to me as a VBAC but they don't offer pessaries just breaking waters and drip.

I hopefully won't need either haha! (Wishful thinking!!)

Bollocks. It's up to you re: going over your 'due date'. You can decline any offer of C/S and opt for waiting instead if you want. Is previous C/S your only 'risk factor' or are you over 40 yrs?

You wouldn't want an induction with any method, pessary OR drip, as the risk of rupture is increased. It's sometimes done under great caution (usually meaning very close monitoring and strict time limits, which increases the risk of a repeat c/s in itself).

Yes, with the due date deadline thing... I did think "well what if I just decide to cancel my c-section and see what happens at home" They are hardly going to pitch up on my doorstep and drag me off to the operating room.

Yes have had successful VBACs with induction. Dd1 was 9 days overdue,had half a dose of prostin gel and the membranes ruptured to get things moving. Dd2 was three days overdue but waters had gone on edd. Had syntocin drip after 48 hours with no contractions.Both births were straight forward vaginal deliveries,ELCS was due to ds being breech.

It's completely up to you. No need to be ballsy about it, if you don't want induction or c/s. Just say "no thanks, we're choosing expectant management". If you're over 40, the risk of stillbirth post EDD is 0.2%. 1 in 500. Nice guidelines say it's very small indeed and women should be supported if they decide not to comply with the guidelines.

There's other research that suggests unless it's your first baby, there are no risks of going over your EDD.

It's up to you. The problem is, the more they tell people they actually have a choice, the more people would take responsibility for their own choices, and make their own decisions, and then the risk management calculations go out of whack due to increased 'non-compliance' and the annual insurance premium goes up...

I've had one VBAC after being induced and I went into hospital to be induced but I went into normal labour by myself. I found the vaginal birth so much easier to get over.

My waters broke just before 40w. Was planning a HVBAC. After 96h and a positive GBS swab I went for induction.

They said a max of 12h induction on drip before c/s.

I got to 4cm.

So the drip was switched off for 6h and then started again.

Every examination showed no progress and eventually I agreed to a 2nd c/s after a second 12h of drip.

However, I asked for a rest before they did it during which time I dilated and DS2 was born naturally.
