Induction after waters gone

Does anyone have an experience of this? My waters went at about 4am last night and hospital have booked me in for an induction on Friday morning if I haven't gone in to labour by then because of the risk of infection to the baby. I'm really scared though and am dreading being induced because I'm worried about the pain and also the higher risk of intervention. I'm 38+3 today and dd was born at 36 weeks, ds at 38 weeks so I've always gone early so far. They were both fast labours too, does this mean this one will be even though it's induced or will be induction mean it will take longer?

I'm also terrified of needles and really do not want a drip Anyone have any tips or induction stories in this situation or otherwise?

your lucky - i delivered my baby 9 days after my waters went - they wouldnt induce me in case she got stuck ! Good luck though

Oh, im terrified with needles, but, honestly your so caught up you barley notice. Just think, (what helped me) is no matter how much you dont want it, or will be scared, them needles will be going in, and a baby will be coming out... so you might aswell relax. Thats what helped me anyway. I had a pessatery (??) at 9pm, waters broke at 5pm next day and was induced futher I think with a drip as DS was in distress, but, I had an epidural so, all I did was lie there Everything went 100% fine, I would recommend epidural though... I think I read somewhere induction labours hurt more. I didnt know any differnet really, DS is my first. I managed quite a while on TENS and im a wimp, so, it cant be too bad! Good Luck xXx

your have 96 hours according to the NICE guidelines before you have to be induced....so you are being allowed to go 72 hours if you are induced friday

it might be you labour spontaneously before then

if your waters have gone and your cervix is dilating, then i think the syntocinon drip is the other option left...not 100 % sure, i;m sure someone else will know!

try to keep positive and visualise labour getting going spontaneously,

not terribly knowledgeable about this, but sure someone esle will be along soon

it is likely you will have a fast labour this time too..keep it in your head all will be well!

induction can work like a charm if your body is good to go..can you have a sweep before then, see if it sets you off? rather than the drip etc..

epi can also slow things down, especially if you do not have a mobile epidural, and can increase the risk of more intervention..and it is a needle too!

i bet you can manage without ! keep as mobile as you can , ask for intermittent monitoring. you should be able to walk with the drip on a stand if you do have one....

Hi Jodie, I had this, some of my waters went, they induced me two days later, although my labour had started but was going very slowly, the induction was to speed it up, so I imagine it could make yours quicker once you've started. Actually being induced wasn't too bad, I didn't really notice the drip compared to contractions pain! The most pain I had was when the broke the rest of the waters to speed things up. I found the most frustrating thing was having to lie on my back once I'd been induced so they could monitor dd's heartbeat, being on my back was more painful, but I understand you can be mobile in some hospitals, I'd think this would be better. I did wimp out and had an epidural, but dd didn't need any intervention. I think it would have been better not to be induced, but it wasn't that bad. You'be got a couple of days though hopefully labour will start naturally for you.

Thanks everyone. Having contractions still so I'm hoping they pick up. I don't want an epidural and was really hoping for a natural birth, I laboured with just gas and air for both my others. Not sure about the sweep, I think the like to avoid anything going in the vagina after waters have broken. I have a drs appt tomorrow for a routine antenatal check so I'll ask then, I'd rather a sweep than to be induced.
