Waiting for a bed for induction

I was due to be induced today at 38wks due to gestational diabetes and signs of pre eclampsia.

I phone maternity at 7am this morning as instructed and was told they had no beds, they'd give me a call later but I was to phone them if I'd not heard by lunchtime.

Lunchtime arrives with no call, I phone them and an told they're still busy but the co-ordinating midwife would be paged and asked to call me ASAP to let me know what was happening,

2.5hrs later no phone call, I called again and was told they'd has a back log discharging people from post- natal which has meant no beds on post to move people on ante natal to. She said things were moving along now and I'd get a call very soon to let me know I could come in.

It's nearly 6pm and still nothing. It's not happening today is it?

I appreciate they have emergencies and I'm just another name on the list but I'm in bits. I'd psyched myself up so much for this. This is my rainbow baby. I lost my son at 22 wks and this pregnancy has been so stressful and full of anxiety I really thought today things would get started.

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced delayed induction appointments and if so, how long did you have to wait? I feel lost and at such a loose end waiting for my phone to ring

Oh dear that is a long wait. When did you have your last Pre-eclampsia test?

You might still get called in. I went for induction and was a 9am appointment but they had people coming in until 9pm

Why don't you give them a ring again? Or get your partner to ring. I appreciate how anxious you must be, but they need to make sure it's safe for you to be started off. They can start your induction at night as well, a lot of wards will do this. Give them a ring and see what the state of play is.

I've not had the PE blood test but have had consistent high BP, protein in my urine and a couple of episodes of blurred vision. My midwife has been monitoring my BP every couple of days for the last week and a half.

I'll get my DH to phone again shortly. I understand they may not have the room it's the hanging around not knowing that is hard - although I guess I'm asking the impossible, they can't dictate emergencies.

I'm just so anxious

Hopefully they will get you in tonight. My induction was started off at around 9 pm 2 weeks ago so they will still start you off even if you go in later. I went in on the Thursday evening and had him on Friday around 5pm. He's 2 weeks old today. Do they know you have possible pre eclampsia? When were you last checked over?

Slightly different experience but I was booked in to be induced for high blood pressure and reduced movements.

Arrived at 10 am and was pretty much ignored until 5pm as they was busy.
I understand that these things happen but I was getting quite worked up, I was by myself and was put on a monitor after I had kicked up a fuss around 2.30pm and they refused to let me home.

I was finally taken up at 11pm after the change over had taken place and the new doctor and midwives on call saw the babies heart rate was decreasing.

It was an awful time and the worst was just hanging around not being told anything.

I hope you get your answers soon try to rest whilst you wait for the call

I had a home visit from my midwife who checked my BP it was high but but not enough to get my called straight in given my appointment today

I got a call at 10pm last night do I'm on the ward but still waiting for them to get started with the induction. At least I'm physically here which is an improvement on when I posted yesterday!!

Sorry to miss your update. Took two pessaries to get me going but all went pretty quickly after that. Good luck!!

I was induced at 38weeks GD. Are you on insulin? I'm sorry to say it took 4 days. Same with the calling in, I'd depends how many emergencies come through you get pushed to the back of the queue.

To make you feel better it's best they do that rather than put you on a busy ward and forget about you because they are rushed of their feet - which happened to me. Baby isn't ready just yet so there's no hurry xxx

Thanks for all the messages. I'm still here. Round 1 of the pessaries don't seem to have done anything. Just waiting for them to come round to remove it then decide what's next - attempt to break my waters or wait 24hrs then try again. Either way looks like I'm here for the long haul!!

It's pants isn't it. But I did realise it's completely normal for the pessaries to do naff all. (I figured this out after 5!) Then you get on the drip and whooooosh off you go! Good luck! X

So turns out induction doesn't work for me.

Pessary had no impact whatsoever.

Next stage 24 hours later was my waters being broken and putting me on the hormone drip. 12 hours of horrendous absolutely agonising back to back contractions needing an epidural ended up with only 3cm dilation and babies head in the wrong position which effectively blocked the dilation as there was no pressure on my cervix. Making the last 12hrs an utter east of time

Ended up having my beautiful daughter at 10.15 this morning by emergency c section.

So far the induction has meant 5 nights in hospital a lot of pain, tears and frustration and the total opposite birth than expected!!

But I have my beautiful daughter smiling up at me and that is amazing
