Hospital induction methods for previous c-section (VBAC)

I was so convinced this one was going to come early that I didn't listen to the consultant at 28 weeks telling me what they could and couldn't do to induce me.

Of course now I've gone past my due date and although I'm not stressed about it I'd like to know what the hospital will do if it doesn't come in the next few days.

Curry is definitely on the menu tonight...

I had a VBAC 2.6years ago and was told couldnt be induced the only thing they could try was a sweep. If that failed it was another c-section. But it did work

I think they have to be pretty careful as your uterus has a scar from the previous LSCS, so a careful induction (without prostaglandin pessaries) and therefore just a sweep, and i think they can use some syntocinon but v v v carefully and with lots of monitoring
They probably will offer you an elective section as well

actually not even sure they can use the syntocinon through the drip

I was induced for a VBAC. Waters broke and had contractions ("tightenings") for 3 days with nothing progressing. They gave me something in a drip at same time as had epidural. Everything fine.

They were prepared to break my waters but as I had scar tenderness they decided against it and I ended up having a cs. A friend of minehad a very slow synt drip and was sucessful.

so you can have syntocinon in the drip but carefully , but no pessaries to soften the cervix

I was attached to the monitors throughout the labour to watch for signs of scar rupturing and baby even though there was nearly 8 years between my two

Policy changes from hospital to hospital, some will induce with syntocinon but they will want to monitor you, although you do not have to do anything you dont want to.

Remember you are not overdue till 42+1 weeks, this is fact.

I am sure you will go into labour when your body is ready.

If you are worried ask for a scan to check placenta, baby etc.

Your best possible chance of having a VBAC is to have as little intervention as possible, easy to say I know but try to chill out and let nature take its course.

as toady says, it varies from hospital to hospital, ours will do two pessaries maximum, and a synto drip...with constant monitoring

try some natural induction methods

nipple stim & sex being the most effective

natural induction

you do not have to agree to induction until you feel ready , and can have monitoring to ensure baby & placenta doing what they should....

if you do end up being induced, please ask them hospital if you can walk and be mobile and upright which will increase the chances of a VBAC x happy birthing

Here in the US they will induce with oxytocin with VBAC, but they do it at lower levels than they would a regular induction. It's not done often, but they do it. It may be the same over there.

Thanks for your replies. As I said I'm not getting anxious as we are all ill at the moment. So it wouldn't be a great time for the baby to arrive anyhow. DH, DS and I are all on antibiotics for a chest infection and we are downing paracetamol too at every opportunity. I don't feel strong enough yet for labour and DH has been complaining he doesn't know how he's going to look after us all if the baby comes soon (DD is ill too). TBH I think the baby is all too aware of the coughing, moaning and tears and is staying put until it all calms down!

Get plenty of rest while you can - sounds like you need it. Hope you are all feeling better soon so you can enjoy your new arrival!
