tens machine - hire or buy

Should I rent a tens machine (cost £30) or buy one of the new fangle ones which claim to have a "superboost" function and will be all new and fresh (cost £70)?

Rent. I rented one off ebay for less than 20 I think and then when I went into labour it all happened so quickly, never even got it out of my bag!

Rent.
You wouldn't guess the hired ones aren't new - they come properly packaged and with brand new sticky pads etc.

Wouldn't bother with one.
Suggest you spend the money on a swing for the baby. .
Much more useful to get him/her to sleep in the day.

I have a Neuro Trac labour TENS, it is in excellent condition, still in its case with instructions and it has a boost button. You can have it for £25 if you like.

Neither. I bought one and it was useless. I would go for an epidural any day. (Though having said that I wasn't allowed one dd2's birth because of my blood pressure).

It may be better than nothing, but believe me, you'll want to kiss that anesthetist.

Most I can remember from my first was having a firm grip on him and saying "Thank you, that feels sooooo much better".

But make sure if you do you poo's cleared up before he/she arrives!

I bought one and it has seen me, my sister and three friends though labour and is about to be used again by my sister then me. So you could say that's good value for money except I paid for it & they all got it for free. Hmmm - should have charged I think.

It worked well for me despite some misgivings in advance.

Well, it depends on the type of birth you are having, doesn't it? My first (OP presentation) I used the TENS machine until I got an epidural and I know exactly what Earl Grey means about wanting to kiss the anaesthetist.
However this time round I got lucky and had an easy time of it and managed with nothing other than the TENS, so IMO it was a bloody good use of £30
