Anyone had a quick first birth?

So I'm 17 weeks pregnant and finally starting to believe I'll get a baby at the end of this after a rocky start to pregnancy.

I had my dd 6 years ago and it was 2 1/2 hours from first pain to birth - was fine but obviously a bit on the intense side.

Now a little worried as I keep reading how second births dare quicker - much quicker and I won't get to hospital (would rather not have a home birth)

So anyone who's had a quick first birth - what were your seconds like?!

Thanks ginandjag for the additional info. You still went through very fast labours!
Loads of other great stories too that confirm I probably should not plan to go to a hospital 45min away :/

Picklesauage · 13/12/2015 19:10

My first was 3 hours, my second was 55 minutes. But I was induced for my second at 37+5 due to reduce movements and reduced waters.

I had warned them I would be fast, they didn't believe me! Fools!

Twinwife · 14/12/2015 10:26

Ooh I can contribute to this now
(Has DC2 yesterday)
DS - 3 1/2 hours from 5cm to delivery with period pains on day
DD - woke at 1am with pains and delivered at 2.50am . Hospital 45mins away, got there just in time

Whatevva · 14/12/2015 10:32

congratulations Twinwife Flowers

BendydickCuminsnatch · 14/12/2015 10:34

Yes, 40 mins, induced for reduced movements 11 days over.

😵 hels!!!! 13 mins!!

Glitterball86 · 14/12/2015 10:39

Had my first baby in September was 12 minutes from waters breaking to him arriving ( I was contracting for few hours prior to this and was peeved I didn't have time for any pain relief lol)

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 14/12/2015 11:02

Congratulations Twinwife! Hope all went well despite the rush there and you're enjoying your brand new wee one.

DisneyMillie · 14/12/2015 14:09

Congrats twinwife!

I think I'm going to have to accept it's likely to be fast!! Oh well - at least the pain will only be brief

Worth considering a home birth? My first was 2 1/2 hours after I got to hospital (having laboured at home a while.) 2nd. 59 mins!

Kim82 · 14/12/2015 14:14

1st - 4 hours, 15 mins

2nd - 1 hour, 4 mins (3 year age gap)

3rd - 35 mins (3 year age gap again)

4th - 1 hour, 30 mins ish, not exactly sure (7 year age gap)

All of mine were induced though and I was on a drip which speeds it all up. I doubt very much they'd have been quite so quick if I'd have gone into labour naturally.

lanbro · 14/12/2015 14:18

Dd1 3 hrs from 1st contraction
Dd2 1.5 hrs from first contraction.

Both easy births, g&a. So glad I wasn't in labour for hours and hours but would never have a 3rd as 2 loop biopsies mean my cervix is quite compromised!

Groovee · 14/12/2015 14:33

Dd was 4 hours, ds was 8 hours. I didn't expect such a long labour.

Tangoandcreditcards · 14/12/2015 19:15

Congrats twinwife

I'm still impatiently waiting to find out how speedy DC2 is. I'm going with a home birth to save the "almost giving birth in a car/car park" fun of last time....

elliejjtiny · 15/12/2015 00:12

DS1 - 4h 20m
DS2 - 90m
DS3 - 2h 15m

So true Helspopje. I remember thinking I was going to die in transition with DS2. He was back to back and the worst labour of the 3.

AverageSnowflake01 · 18/12/2015 14:38

Is there anyway to know if you're going to have a quick labour? Any pre labour signs?

Graciescotland · 18/12/2015 14:42

First 4.5 hours second 10 minutes.

Chasingsquirrels · 18/12/2015 14:44

hmm, with ds2 (my

Whatevva · 18/12/2015 14:57

I had to go to the loo and empty my bowels with DS1, even though I had no contractions (waters broke)

With DTs, I just had mild contractions for an hour, then I had to go to the loo, so we took that as a sign and went to hospital fast after that.

SparklyTinselTits · 18/12/2015 15:24

I was induced...prepared myself for days and days of labour. Pessary went in, and 20mins later I was having monster contractions. 3 hours later DD arrived!
We are planning another baby, but I don't know if my labour was so fast because of the induction, or whether that's just how my body labours? Will be interesting to find out if I do go into spontaneous labour with the next one Hmm

BendydickCuminsnatch · 18/12/2015 16:49

Sparkly I've been wondering the same! I really hope it's just how we labour, ha :) that would be ideal. I've been thinking of planning a homebirth for next time as I definitely wouldn't get to the hospital in time, although with DC1 I had to have forceps as things went wrong so don't know if they can do that with a homebirth. Also I doubt I'll ever not be induced. I just have a feeling!

Katarzyna79 · 18/12/2015 16:53

depends when am I supposed to calculate the time from from going into hospital?

I have contractions usually all night then early morning when it becomes unbearable I'm in the hospital I have the baby within 30 minutes of arriving. one I had within 15 minutes as soon as I got into the examination room there was no examination too late .

TesticleOfObjectivity · 18/12/2015 16:58

Mine was fast - under 3 hours. Would have been quicker but the baby got stuck.

TesticleOfObjectivity · 18/12/2015 16:59

Oops I haven't had a second yet!

schokolade · 18/12/2015 18:35

DD was 1 hr 15 min. Labour started for me with violent vomiting and diarrhoea. Waters didn't break until DD was nearly out.

Too scared to have a second!!

CheeseGrater · 18/12/2015 18:38

First was 5 hours max. Second was about the same once it got going but had been stop-start for a day and a half before that.
