Contraception straight after giving birth

Due to give birth in a few weeks and wondered if the hospital offer contraception there and then (can't remember from last time)
Looking to go back on the pill - getting an appointment with my GP is a nightmare so would prefer to pick up a prescription at the hospital

They didn't with me. I went to a drop in clinic to get the pill, can take a while but with a newborn you don't need to be anywhere (generally). You won't even want to have sex for at the very least a month afterwards anyway so I wouldn't worry.

No don't think they do. You will have an appointment with a gp at 6-8 weeks so you could sort then? If breastfeeding you will need the progesterone only pill as the combined affects milk supply.

Planning to ff so pill type won't be an issue, I know it'll be a few weeks till I feel like it anyway just rather be prepared, not

The doctors talk it through at the 6 week check, before then I advise condoms! If you feel up to it! I had a mire a coil fitted at 8 weeks,it was dead easy to get fitted because everything was still stretchy!

Could you get a repeat prescription before you go to Hospital.

I wouldn't wait until the 6/8 week check as you can start contraception before then. Hormonal contraception can be started at 21 days after birth and then you are covered straight away.

Not sure if all doctors are the same but I write a repeat prescription note and pop it in the box in docs reception, wait a couple of days then collect the prescription up at the reception.

You can buy it so you don't have to get a prescription in advance.

I always pay to buy it. It's gets delivered. Far cheaper to pay £30, than loose a whole afternoons pay going to a doctors appointment at a stupid time

Artandco, I only go to the go once a year for my pill- they check my blood pressure and ask a few questions,I usually tag it on to another issue. Other than that I put in a repeat prescription every 3-6 months online, it gets delivered to the pharmacy automatically and then delivered to me at home. All completely free. God love the nhs! OP- I plan to get a prescription pre birth for the mini pill (which is my usual pill) I doubt I'll be up for any action before 21days but if I am we do have some condoms.

Art most CASH and family planning clinics run in an evening to accommodate for people who work in the day. Have a Google for your local one and you may save some pennies

I don't really mind tbh. It's £30 for a whole year. That's £2.50 a month to never have any hassle.

Evening evening appointments are often at the wrong time tbh as often I'm not even int the country or if I am have the kids all with me etc and it's just far easier
