If everything else goes to plan, I would like to have a natural third stage - can I do this if I need Anti-D after birth? Grateful for any advice.

I had fully natural water birth, no epidural, no gas&air, no injections to deliver the placenta, no intervention at all. And I had Anti-D after. Didn't seem to be a consideration. HTH!

I don't really understand why it would make any difference to your third stage

the anti d doesn't do anything to the third stage, has nothing really to do with the birth, it's juat that that is when they know whether baby is + or -

Absolutley, are you Rh-ve, if so the mw will be expecting to obtain cord blood to test for baby's blood group to see if you need ant d, this can be done after delivery of the placenta as only a small ammount is needed and it is still possible to get this much from the cord, even after the vessels have spasmed and the cord has stopped pulsating.

there is absolutely no reason why you cant have a natural third stage unless there is some complication during the delivery, and you are advised that a managed third stage is safer.

If you may need anti D because you are rh-ve they wont know that until the results of the blood tests are back and these are taken from the cord (or baby) and you following delivery

I had natural delivery 4 months ago (at home), I am -ive and DH is +ive. I had the anti-D injection 2 days after the birth, blood was taken from the cord at the time.
