how late did your baby turn???

i had my 32 week app and up until now my baby was head down. today the midwife told me lo had moved around and is breech..

does this happen often?
has anyone any experience of this?

my baby is large and i am worried that will hinder its movements back to cephalic presentaion.

would be grateful if you girls can reassure me.

Dd moved around to pretty much every position going. She was breech until around 36 weeks, transverse by 37wks and eventually head down at 38wks.

She was predicted to be enormous (from 2growth scans) but was actually 8lbs 4oz, so it can be hard to tell how large a baby is before the actual birth.

38 weeks for me.

agree with you copper. last time was told baby would be small and he was 9lb 4oz.

This is NOT intended to worry you, but I think they can turn any time. I had my last checkup the day before DS2 was born (40weeks) and was told head down, everything looking fine.
Went into labour the next day and had emergency caesar because he was breech !

Bubblebell, are you sure your midwife was right? They sometimes get it wrong - a particularly large, firm bottom can feel like a head in the later stages of pregnancy! I was misdiagnosed and told baby was breech at 39 weeks, but a scan confirmed he was actually head down.

If yours really is breech, then it could still turn at any time, even during early stages of labour, but the later it gets the more unlikely this becomes.

I'm in the same boat - had my 34 wk appt last week and told it was breech after being head down the previous appt. I see the midwife in a weeks time and if still breech then I see a consultant 2 days later re externally turning it. Can't say I like the thought! Has anyone done it? What was it like?

I've tried acupuncture but the sticks we chose were really smelly and smokey so abandoned it.

I might try various tricks in the swimming pool next - anything is worth a go!

Hi baby, I would give the moxa sticks another go if I was you, 34 weeks is the ideal time to try moxa for the best results due to baby's size and liqour volume, there is also a midwife I know who has used moxa for breech babies for a long time and has found (but she has no trails to support these findings) that even if the baby does not turn with moxa if the mother then decides to have an ECV, they obs is nearly always sucessful, often the sucess rates for ECV are quite low.

thanks for that, maybe I will then. Just a shame they smoke so badly, we should have gone with the non smoke ones but they seemed tricky to light.

The other thing that concerns me is that I was told not to continue if the baby has turned but I have no clue if it has! Although I am still being kicked in the groin which is kind of a clue!

If baby is still breech you will prob know from where you feel movements, if you have felt a sudden change in how your bump feels or where the kicks are then give your mw a call and ask her to check, it is correct that you shouldn't continue as the moxa used on the bladder 67 point encourages a downward movement so will only encourage a head first baby to move back to a breech position! You may be able to feel baby's head yourself, my daughter was breech and I could easily tell that she was still breech as I could palpate her head just below my ribs, in my current pregnancy I am pretty sure my baby is now head down and can't feel a damn thing myself!!
