Induction- when to have epidural

37 weeks with twins and being induced this week.
Last labour was long and tough and eventually had epidural and drip to get things moving faster. Pushing stage was fine- 15 minutes, no instruments, no stitches.
So this week, I assume I'll have pessary to get things started and then drip later. Should I just have an epidural at the same time as the drip or see how it goes?

You may not even need the drip, so I'd wait until it happens to have the epidural. I've been induced twice and not needed the drip either time, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion.

Wow, twins! How exciting Flowers

Sorry should have added both times I was induced around 38 weeks so not late.

In our hospital they will only give you an epidural when you're 4cms dilated. I was induced and my epidural failed 3 times - by which stage the contractions on the drip were utter agony - so ask for one as early as you can get it X

With twins don't they generally want the epidural in place anyway?

I said no drip until epidural in place. Smile

They seem pretty open at my hospital- it's my choice whether / when to have an epidural.
I'm keen to have one really because 1) I remember how much labour hurry last time and 2) contracting for hours is really tiring and I've got two babies to push out this time so the more rested I feel, the better.

I don't know if I'll need the drip or not but when examined a few days ago, my cervix was totally closed so I don't know how well things will progress.

Must just keep an open mind I guess.

With my second I had an attempted sweep Tuesday morning which failed cos everything was closed and a baby in my arms by the morning! A second (and third!) might be a lot faster.
