does the mucus plug always come out in a big red blob? or...what's this?!

Hi all,

Am 37+3 today. This post is way TMI, I don't care, but you might so fair warning :-)

Right, so after having thin and runny milky white discharge for weeks 35/36, over the past few days I've been releasing tiny bits of egg white like gloop.

So, on sun day it was the first bit of egg white mucus I saw since 9 months ago when I ovulated. Kept increasing till today when I found a small blob of what's best described as gloop. It wasn't white, it was very pale cream bordering on yellowish, not stretchy egg white texture, more a snot like one. But only a small blob.

So my question is what's this, and does the mucus plug always come in a big single red bloody show, or is it possible to lose it in bits?

Definitely possible to lose in bits although bear in mind it can grow back! I lost mine in 2 big goes at 40 weeks and labour started soon after but my SIL lost hers in bits over about 3 weeks. It looks like someone's blown their nose in your pants Shock

Good luck!

I lost my mucus plug last Friday and I thought I had lost it all as it was huge but then I lost another huge chuck on Saturday and a smaller chunk on Sunday. The first chuck was about 3 inches long, half an inch wide and its consistency was like a huge mound of snot - stretchy, thick and gluey and off white in colour. I didn't have any blood in the mucus plug but it was definitely the plug. I am still here waiting and there is no sign of baby arriving yet. I'm bang on my due date and getting very impatient as the head is engaged and causing lots of pressure pain.

Sounds like it's starting to come away. I had this both times from 37 weeks but didn't lose the proper plug til 40 weeks. It's like a massive glob of thick snot.

Ahh thanks everyone! I get the pain aspect, he's been engaged for two weeks now and my anus and perineum and pelvic bone hurt so much with every movement and I feel like I am carrying a ball inside of me!
