40+6, 1/5 palpable but high cervix?

I'm 40+6 and had a midwife appointment today where she tried to do a sweep.
The midwife said the head is 1/5 palpable and really far down but said she could only just touch my cervix because it's too high and not soft enough. Therefore I never really got a sweep properly.
She said that she thought that I wouldn't go into labour before my induction that they've booked for Monday night.
Has anyone been told the same thing? What happened in the end? I really want to avoid being induced/waiting until Monday if I can.
I've been on the raspberry leaf tea for a couple of weeks now but I'm going to increase my intake and get on the pineapple. Are there any other ways to get the cervix lower?

Hi, I'm 40+6 today too (with our third) and the midwife is supposed to come by to do a sweep. My induction is planned for next week Wednesday (41+6). I'd also love to avoid it if I can, especially because my first one was a c-section (my second was a VBAC) and the only way they'll try to induce me is by breaking my waters.

I'm honestly not sure if anything is proven to really help. I believe even a sweep won't help if you were not going to go into labor yourself anyway. Good luck. I hope it happens for us soon. I've had a few pains last night but it fizzled out and I blissfully fell asleep.

I had a sweep at this point, my cervix was also high and closed however my plug had started coming away by itself. I was booked for induction, baby arrived by himself on that day , must have known time was up! Sorry to say, it's usually a case of either it will or it won't (however, I did do a lot of floor cleaning the day before my plug went, on all fours, I'm pretty sure that really helped as I had also tried everything else!).

Thanks Norah & MrsGently. Was feeling a bit sore last night but nothing laboury. I'm hoping that mine will just know it's time is up too and go by itself on Sunday or something!
I hate the thought of being in hospital by myself, not a big hospital person, have fainted in hospitals twice! I'll be spending a fortune on magazines to distract me

The midwife came by today to do a sweep. My cervix is low and central, 80% effaced and 3 cm dilated. So we'll see...

You never know. I had a midwife appointment on my due date, thought I was having contractions so she examined me and said my cervix was high and posterior so not much happening. Ds was born 5 hours later

So it was labour...a 43 hour then emergency c-section labour
Not quite what I was expecting but now my little Lucy is here I just don't even care!

Hey dotladotia, I went into labour Monday night/Tuesday early morning (20th). Started at home, went to the hospital at 7 am'ish. On the monitor, noticed it's established labour. Then up to the delivery ward at 4 cm, labour picked up intensity, went to 10 cm in less than 2 hours. Waters broke naturally and all went downhill from there. Baby's heartrate dropped, emergency teams in the labour room. I needed to push for dear life, ventouse, forceps and Haris was born. Had a rough start but picked up really well after that. Needed to be stitched up in theatre for a 3rd degree tear. I tell you, the spinal block in theatre was BLISS after doing everything without any pain relief.

Lost a lot of blood so pretty severely anemic right now, but we'll survive!

Oh gosh, that sounds like an ordeal. It's scary when it doesn't go as you thought it would. I didn't have a plan at all but I know that the consultant shouting 'c-section' in the middle of examining me then everyone running round in a flurry wasn't what I'd expected
I hope you've got someone to help and support you? My friend had stitches and was in a lot of pain-she swore by putting pads with witch hazel in the freezer then on her bits.

Although it was scary and painful, it's amazing to look at my baby and think she's mine! I'm a lucky lady.
