What to do with your rings in labour?

Last time my fingers swelled up so I wasn't wearing them. This time they still fit. But should I leave them at home? Do you have to remove them if you end up going to theatre for c section etc? I'd prefer to keep them on but if I have to remove them I would rather they were at home than somewhere other than with me in hospital.

The theatre team put plasters over my rings for my 2 emcs.

You don't have to remove them for a c section but they may stick some tape over them. Not quite sure what that achieves but if it keeps them happy! So don't worry about it. Good luck with the birth.

I kept mine on for my labours. DS4 was an elcs so they put tape over my wedding ring. DS5 was a crash section so they didn't have time. I remember taking off my watch and giving it to DH, who quickly shoved it in my shoe before dashing off to get into scrubs.

Had to take mine off for elcs. Dh took it and kept it safe

I took mine off at home. One less thing to worry about!

Leave them at home. My fingers swelled up like balloons and the mw said if I'd had them on they would have had to cut them off.

(the rings, not my fingers Grin)

As far as I recall, I kept mine on.

Dh, however, took his wedding ring off, for ds2 and ds3's births - because he claims I gripped his hand so hard when I was in labour with ds1, that I nearly pushed his ring down to the bone!

I'm only 34 weeks and my wedding ring is languishing on the bedside table and has been for about 2 weeks now. Fingers like sausages (not chipolatas!). Just hope they go down enough after the birth that I don't have to have it widened!
