Was your labour similar to your mum's? (sorry for multiple posts think my iPad had a glitch)

I've heard that certain things about labour can sort of run in the family. Say short/long labour, being early or overdue, having to have waters artificially broken... Is that true? According to mum, her labour and delivery took about 3 hours and 'was more uncomfortable than painful' with no complications. I'm the only child but that was her experience. Does it give me hope? I'm due in November with first baby. Really interested in your opinions.

My mums mum had 2 breech babies with the cord around their necks. My mums sisters had to be induced as they didn't dialate and one ended up with a c section. My mum went into labour but wasn't dialating very fast and had her waters broken, ended up with 3rd degree tear, a retained placenta and a PPH. I asked for a cesarean to avoid this, before my cesarean I had contractions but didn't dialate very much and my son got distressed and pooed in the waters. By the time I had my cesarean he was blue and had to go to NICU.

The women in my family don't have good births.

My mother had a labour going on to 24 hrs, high blood pressure, transferred hospitial and given cervical block (don't think you get those now?). The others were straightforward except the last, who was early and she had retained placenta.

Both my labours were under 3hrs and uncomplicated, thankfully - especially the twins - that could have been difficult.

TaliZora, sorry to hear about your stressful birth experience! Why did they delay the Caesarian?

Whatevva, wow labours under 3 hours, I'm soooo jealousGrin Hope I'll have the same!

My mum had all sorts of obstetric complications with her 4 pregnancies whereas I have been incredibly lucky and had 4 very straightforward pregnancies and births.

Apparently, it can have a bearing which is why they ask when you're pregnant the first time (or they did me) but after that, your own birth(s) are more relevant.

bunny they said I wasn't in established labour as I didn't dialate past 1cm and my cesarean was booked for a week. My sons movements reduced and the monitor was showing contractions but they wouldn't move the date. I'm very angry about it

Dunno about me, but I often think of my cousins (3 full sisters each had 3 DC).

Sister1: failure to progress ended in CS and had elective CS after that.
Sister 2: only had epidurals, freaked out at idea of coping without (did try).
Sister 3: pops out babies while filing her nails and reading Hello

So which of them is like their mom.
