Birth stories third (or more) time round?

Im currently 24 weeks pregnant with baby no 3 and starting to think about the birth.

My first dd (now 2.5) was an awkward one, 24 hours of established labour with gas and air and completely irregular contractions - I had to be put on a drip at 10cm as they were floating about at every 10-15 mins, and 45 mins of pushing.

My second dd (now 1.5) 4 hours of established labour, gas and air and out within 2 pushes. I didn't feel like id given birth at all afterwards Smile

This time round im hoping to wake up in the night, sneeze and pop out a baby, I can dream right?!

How did your third (or more) experience of childbirth relate to your first and second, if at all?
Im considering a home birth this time round, not because I think it will be super quick although I am hoping, but because with both of my first labours I was left alone and told I wasnt in labour because I didnt seem like I was in enough pain..

Im only asking out of complete curiosity Grin

DS1 labour was 38 hours of contractions which started at 3 minutes apart when my waters broke. I was pushing for 2 hours, had an episiotomy, tore, his shoulders got stuck, he was back to back, came out face first and I had pph. He was 7lb 12
DD I was in slow labour for two weeks, established for 5 hours, she was back to back and face first too. I pusged for 7 minutes start to finish and she had pooed inside of me. She was 7lb 10
DS2 (5 weeks) I was in slow labour for a couple of weeks again. The day I came into established labour I woke up and couldn't decide if I was having contractions or if I just needed a big poo Blush
Within half an hour they had gone from 7 mins apart to 2 mins apart. He was born 4 hours after waking up that morning. He was in a good position to be born, I pushed for literally 2 minutes to get his head out, then he sort of dropped into the midwifes arms. He shat inside of me too. He was 10lb 10. (But by far the easiest)

Dd1 12 hours of labour, epidural at 4cms, couldn't push properly so taken to theatre 'just in case', forceps delivery.

Dd2 waters broke a week before due date, induced 2 days later, epidural from the off, pushing was easy, delivered 6hrs from induction.

Ds started tentatively labouring at 1.15, out of control by 3pm, got to the hospital with 20 mins to spare Blush, delivered after 2.5 hrs of labour

Moral of the story...all births are different but, if it's dc3, don't hang about once labour starts!

Oh all of mine gas and air was my saviour, but as heymammy said, DC3 usually gets a shift on

1st- 20hrs of contractions, ended in an emergency csection when he got distressed.

2nd- waters broke, contractions started an hour later, he was born 2
Hours after that so 4 hours from start to finish.

3rd- waters broke with meconium, really bad contractions started straight away. Almost gave birth in the car when I started pushing. Thankfully just made it on to the bed and she was out with one more push 40 minutes after my waters broke.

I don't think I will have any more.

I'm expecting DS3 any day now so this is interesting reading.

Thank you for all your input, can I just say wow! Hopefully this one comes as quickly as your DC's Smile

Ooo good luck for when the time comes DrCoconut

1st - never got into established labour. failed induction so C-section.
2nd - 52 hours from first twinge, 12mins pushing. Labour started within 24 hours of sweep.
3rd - 14 hours from first twinge, 20mins pushing. Labour started within 24 hours of sweep.

Hoping number 4 will be a nice short one. 40 minutes (or even 4 hours) sounds amazing!

Iwillorderthefood · 04/10/2015 21:43

dd1 from first twinge to birth 48 hours, she was back to back, epidural plus ventouse

dd2 from first twinge to birth 8 hours 40, had pethdine, and has and air, pushing took about 30 mins. Retained placenta, with manual removal.

Dd3, waters started to trickle during Friday, I realised of night got them checked out on Saturday morning, admitted to hospital for induction on Saturday at 7pm, obs overnight as no room. I was 3 cm with no contractions, when I had the drip and from start to finish, with epidural it took 1 hour 51 mins. Fabulous, I did not feel a single contraction.

First was a days long production with drips and forceps.

Second was a 9 hour home birth. Back to back. Fucking hurt but awesome. It would have been better if I'd realised it would be so much quicker - I was starting to panic I'd be in that much pain for another 24 hours and bam she was out.

Third was four hours. At home. Intense but manageable. Finally learned how to push hard enough to get it out but gently enough not to tear Blush

DC1 - 28 hours from the first contraction, 20 hours from 5cm dilated. Epidural, episiotomy.
DC2 - 3.5 hours from the first contraction, just gas and air
DC3 - same as DC2!

dontpokethebear · 04/10/2015 21:59

Ds1 - induction, waters broken, nothing happened, drip, tens, gas and air, pethidine. Pushed for 30 mins. 8 hours in total.

Ds2 - induction, irregular contractions, waters broken, nothing happened, drip, tens, gas and air, epidural. Pushed for 20 mins. 6 hours in total.

DD - induction successful from the start. Regular contractions. Waters broken, needed to push nearly immediately, told I could possibly need to as I was only 5.5 cm when last examined 20 mins previously and out she popped when the midwife went to have a look Grin. 2.5 hours in total.

If we had the room I'd be tempted to have another based on DDs birth!

NationMcKinley · 04/10/2015 22:08

DC1 - about 6 hours of early labour with irregular twingy contractions. Went to hospital expecting to be sent home, was 6 - 7cm and he was born 3.5 hours later. Gas and air. 7lb 14oz

DC2 - Pretty much identical except for home water birth and 8lb 9oz

DC3 - hmmmm. He twatted about for 22 hours after my waters went. Occasional sporadic contractions. Nothing worked to get him going. Was on timer for admission to hospital for monitoring and possible induction. Then he decided he would be born and I went from 3 to 10cm in less than 1.5 hours with the pushing stage being 2 minutes Hmm. Very little pain, no tearing just abit of a shock. He's always been an awkward bugger Smile

Good luck to all you preggo ones. I'd do it all again tomorrow

Elisheva · 04/10/2015 22:18

DS1 was about 12 hours, straightforward but very painful.
DS2 I think about 6 hours in all, was so much easier that I didn't realise how far gone I was and got to the hospital with only 20 minutes to spare.
DD was even quicker, about 4 hours in all. DH had learned from number 2 and manhandled me into the car despite me insisting it wasn't time yet. Took 12 minutes from starting to push to delivering the placenta.
Good luck! I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.
