Evening Primrose Oil

I've also posted this on the pregnancy board since I forgot this one was here! Grin

Bit of background: I am due to be induced at 37 weeks. I had an internal scan on Thursday due to a low lying placenta and I was told that it's now moved to a safe position, it's safe for me to have a vaginal delivery and that baby 1s head is nice and low and touching my cervix. (All very positive!)

I was induced with DS at 42 weeks (ARM and straight on the drip) and it was quite traumatic, no build up of contractions, went from very mild cramping every 5/7 mins to constant contractions which didn't have peaks/troughs and in the end had to have the drip switched off.

As you can probably imagine I'm very keen to do everything I can to get my body prepared to go into labour naturally. (I am aware there are lots of old wives tales that don't work, I tried practically EVERYTHING when I went overdue with DS and nothing worked!)

I have read that evening primrose oil can help ripen the cervix? Has anyone got any experience of using this? Did it work?

I am also unsure of how to take it and how much? I've read mixed messages, some saying to take orally, others saying to insert vaginally, others saying it can't hurt to do both.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Never heard of that one. If it's any help I drank loads of raspberry leaf tea with DC2 and the baby almost fell out Smile

Well, I went very overdue with DD and in the last couple of weeks tried everything. One of those was taking evening primrose oil (orally, can't remember how much, sorry). Whether it was that, or the copious amount of uncomfortable sex or the acupuncture or the several sweeps or the walking miles every day or just the fact that she was ready to come out, DD arrived at the 11th hour (labour 40 + 13, born 40 + 14).

Oh, add nipple twiddling to that list (not as fun as it sounds)
