2 weeks postpartum - normal?

I had my first baby almost 2 weeks ago. Quite a difficult labour, had a posterior vaginal wall tear that was apparently quite deep but wasn't stitched due to awkward positioning (obs said see how it healed and the next morning she checked and was happy with it). Also had 2 haematomas on labia which they seemed to think was unusual but not serious.

I have been steadily feeling better and bleeding has been tapering off, however yesterday I was bothered all day by a strong aching pain inside my vagina that eased when I sat or lay down. Also bleeding has increased again and there is dark red stringy blood when I wipe.

Anyone know if I should I be worried? is this normal recovery pain? Bit concerned that if I go to gp and say ' I had a baby 2 weeks ago and my vagina hurts' they'll just say 's had do you expect?' Grin

I think you should be feeling better, not worse. I had a blip when I'd been doing too much one day, but otherwise I felt steadily better as the days went on. It might be worth getting checked out, for your own peace of mind Flowers

Please go and get checked out, are you still under the midwives, could they check for you? No one will think you're silly, as pp said, you should be being better, not worse.

I think it sounds normal, especially if you have been doing a bit much. Do seek medical advice if you get lots of fresh blood or start to feel feverish or sick. Congratulations Flowers

After 2 weeks I think this doesn't sound normal. Definitely get it checked out, and take things as easy as you can. Flowers

And congratulations!

about a week after having my little (big) boy i had a huge clot of blood pass in one go and lots of stringy blood too. im not saying its normal as my birth was completely different as far as tears and stitching. my problem was simply over doing it, trying to get back to normal too soon. my advise is to get yourself checked to make sure, put your mind at rest.

I think its quite common to still feel very sore and bruised only two weeks after a difficult birth and i remember an intermittent aching pain for a few weeks post birth. That said i would seek some advice in your situation as you are clearly a bit concerened hence you posting. Midwife would be a good starting point if you haven't been discharged from their care otherwise i'd be tempted to try your labour ward if you gave birth in hospital. Mine told me they were happy to help with any issues with either me or little one any time in first six weeks. Perhaps you could pop in to be checked over there?

i was still very fragile 2w pp but agree that you should be feeling better, not worse, id see your mw or give the hospital a ring. Hopefully its nothing but im sure they wont mind checking

I think you should be feeling better by now, certainly not as you are, ok and then worse.

Just ring your midwife, describe it and see what she says. Try and rest in the mean time and eat and drink well.

Thanks everyone - I saw the gp and they have referred me for an ultrasound tomorrow. they suspect I have retained products. They said I did the right thing going in, thanks for your help and reassurance I wasn't making a fuss about nothing!
