Water home birth - is new carpet a silly idea?!

I'm hoping to have a home water birth in December, renting an inflatable pool. We're getting some decorating done before and we're thinking of getting a new carpet - we currently have laminate flooring. Would it be silly to get a new carpet before the birth - what are the chances of it being ruined?! I'm assuming the pool would have some kind of protective floor sheeting and I could get more, shower curtains etc. If we didn't get the new carpet then we'd do it in the new year but that would be a ball ache removing furniture again!

I just had a home water birth two weeks ago Smile if you are renting a birth pool in a box they come with protective sheeting etc for the floor. Everything happened so fast for us that we only just got the pool filled in time and DP forgot to put the sheet down underneath the pool! I had plastic sheeting and old throws for the sofas none of which were used and not a drop of anything went on either the carpets or sofas. The midwifes brought loads of those absorbant pads with them which were sufficient Smile

I used a waterproof backed sheet with an absorbant top, which covered themajority of the carpet, it was completely fine and a lo less mess than i thought

I have laminate but I don't think there was much mess tbh. We had plastic sheeting down that came with the pool to protect from water.

I would just make sure you have a covered 'path' from the pool to where you will go after giving birth in case there's blood immediately after delivery. There wasn't for me so I was ok but I know some people bleed a bit right after birth.

Thanks all for this! Good to know - if it's within budget we'll get it laid in October Smile
