Bishop's Score and spontaneous labour

Hi all,

I'm due today and midwife gave me a sweep this morning. She also did my Bishop's Score which was 7 (anterior cervix, 1-2cms dilated, some softening).

What experiences do people have of going into labour naturally with a similar score and how long did it happen after the sweep?

Sorry to say but I was 1-2cm with soft cervix etc for 10 days before I had my baby! I was having mild contractions on and off the whole time so constantly thought real labour was imminent.

Hope you can enjoy the final countdown and good luck when the time comes.

Ah that's a shame BBQ. Did you end up being induced or spontaneous labour?

Your description sounds identical to what I'm going through now.

I ended up being induced (well, having hormonal gel) after labour had failed to progress 24 hours after my waters had broken.

The induction was fine, I'm sure my body was well primed as I delivered 6 hours after the gel (second baby).

How are you feeling today? Any other signs that things are progressing?

Were you able to be midwife led BBQ?

No progress here but going to go for a nice walk as the sun has come out to see if that shifts things!!

My baby has a heart condition so I needed to deliver in the main bit so the paediatricians had easy access to their equipment. I'm not sure whether being induced would have affect where I could deliver otherwise.

I had my heart set on a home birth like my first before they discovered the defect and was slightly anxious about the delivery suite but I actually found it really easy to get "in the zone" and it was brilliant having all the tea and toast facilities so close!

BBQueen · 29/07/2015 22:12

Anyway, you're ages away from being induced yet!

Thanks BBQ.

Hope your DC2 is doing really well now x

Is it you first?

I scored a 5 and went into labour a week later (a week early!).

applecore0317 · 29/07/2015 22:28

I wasn't given my score, but was told that I was 2-3cm and she could have stretched to 4cm. My cervix was Soft and Favourable, but posterior. She could feel the top of my baby's head and said my waters were bulging a little around it. Five days later just after midnight my waters started going and six hours later she arrived :) I was on the midwife led unit.

waitingfornumber2 · 29/07/2015 22:29

My 2nd but I was induced at 38 wks with my first due to low waters so have no idea what to expect from natural labour!

I could cope with a week over. It's 2 more of these on/off contractions and then ending up with induction anyway that I'd like to avoid.

Hi Waiting, still... erm... waiting?!

waitingfornumber2 · 30/07/2015 22:44

Hi BBQ. Yes indeed. Bouncing on my ball and considering propositioning DH!

Only just seen Applecore's message and that sounds very similar to what my midwife said except I was only 1-2 dilated but she could stretch me to 4. Hoping I will go naturally soon!
