people say that the injection makes it quicker placenta but ive heard you can do this naturally. has anyone experience of either and do you get a choice?

You do get a choice. With the injection it comes within a few minutes, without it it takes up to an hour I think.
I chose to have the injection, after all that giving birth I didn't even feel it, I had a few more contractions and it was out, meaning that the midwife could get on with my stitches and I could get to cuddling and feeding ds quicker.
I know plenty of people choose not to have the injection, but I don't know the reason why

I didn't have the injection for both of my births and both times the placenta was out within 15 minutes of the baby being born - in fact the second time it was about 5 minutes!

Delayed cord cutting and clamping and the natural passing of the placenta ensure that the baby gets the full blood flow and increased iron from the placenta.

I opted for a non medicated delivery of the placenta as on balance i felt that the injection wouldn't benefit me.

I planned to deliver and try and initiate breast feeding as soon as possible with extended delayed cord clamping.

My mw said that they normally inject the drug as the baby is being born as immediately after, which means they have to clamp the cord immediately to prevent the drug going theough the cord (may have changed in the last 6 years!)

Initiating breastfeeding helps to stimulate the delivery of placenta as well.

I think we delayed cord clamping for Round 40 mins and then the placenta came out after about 50mins, we werent worried about rushing it, so it really didnt matter.

Ultimatley its up to you and how you feel about it. Medicated delivery has some side effects like head ache and nausea for some people too

I had delayed cord clamping and they waited a short while before giving me the injection, I was told in NCT that it takes approximately three minutes for all the blood to flow from the placenta to the baby. Once the placenta was out, which was pretty quickly, they left me cuddling and feeding my baby for a good forty minutes and then did the small amount of stitches that I needed.

I had the injection for the first birth.
Second birth was a home birth and I had delayed cord clamping and opted for a natural placenta delivery but after an hour it hadn't come and I had terrible shakes and felt awful. After twenty minutes after the injection it still hadnt come and they were talking about transferring me to hospital and needing a catheter etc - I ended up getting up and moving about and thankfully it came away then but it was quite scary, probably more so because I was at home. Not trying to scare you - just to give my experience. I think I would try natural again if I had another but get up and move around as my instinct was to do this but the mw kept trying to get me to lie down.
