My due date is tomorrow (19/11) have been having weekly scans for the past 3 weeks, first child was small for dates (not tiny more borderline), this time they picked up amniotic fluid was on the low side of normal range (but still in normal range and has held it's own over the past 3 weeks), baby hasn't grown much in the past couple of weeks but placenta looks to be doing OK, heart trace on baby was good, sonographer said baby seems happy ...

But consultant didn't want me to go overdue so I am booked in for an induction on Tuesday.

Really unsure about having induction after everything I've read ... mentioned concerns to doc last week and he said there's less of a chance of failed induction with second/subsequent babies - is this true?

No, spontaneous labour at exactly 39 weeks - on the whole very positive experience.

I personally have never heard this before, I was induced for my second pregnancy and it led eventually to a section but obviously induction has worked for some.

I think if baby is ready to come when you are induced then it will be more likely to be successful. Once you are induced you have started the clock ticking as far as the hospital are concerned. What do they like .... 1cm an hour .... what if you don't do 1cm an hour??

Your anmiotic fluid is in the normal range, baby is happy, do you feel comfortable? If all yes I would avoid induction until 42 weeks. You went into labour at 39 weeks last time so it is possible you will go into labour soon anyway but meanwhile sit back and enjoy your time just you and baby

agree with toady....if baby happy in utero.....let baby stay there...

no reason to hurry baby out..

when the induction is started...you are then under starters' orders and you will labour under hospital protocol....with IVs and constant monitoring being quite likely......

if you feel more comfortable hanging on , then say so...you do not have to agree to be induced......esp if not even 41 weeks .....xx

I was induced and I loved it. It was a great experience, nothing to fear. You can ask for a waking drip and monitor so you are not stuck in bed.

That being said, even though I wouldn't mind doing it again, it's not my first choice.

You need to do what is right for you. If your baby is ok, and you are ok there really isn't a reason to do it. Just ask to be monitored closely to make sure baby is ok.

Thanks everyone - my big worry is that they will induce me, it will take days as my body won't be ready and could end up in a CS which I really want to avoid for practical/recovery reasons.

I'm not concerned about the baby at the moment and agree it will come when ready. I have no problem telling them I don't want the induction and will speak to them about further monitoring I think.

MKG thanks for the positive words on your induction it's good to know there are options to stay mobile and even if I say no to induction on Tuesday I guess it could still go that way.

you could ask for an internal..which they will do before induction to see if your cervix is favourable..if things are moving, maybe leave well alone...if not moving..then better to hang on anyway!

Guess I'll never find out if the induction would have worked! Baby born on the bedroom floor at home yesterday, delivered by partner, 2 paramedics who arrived 2 mins before baby did and emergency midwife arrived 5 minutes later to deliver placenta!!!

Oh how brilliant, hope you were not too shocked (or dp for that matter!) Im sure you and your lovely baby were tucked up in bed within the hour exactly where you should be.....

Anymore planned then? Id stay in from 2 weeks before your due date unless you want to make a killing in Marks and Spencer (you get vouchers if you go in to labour in store) Heee Heeee xx
