Do i have a bug or am i in labour??

Please tell me i'm in labour!

Am i right in thinking loose poo is common at the start of labour? I appear to be having regular contractions during the last hour, but have also twice been to the loo for a loose poo!

I'm thinking ok, this could be labour or this could be cramps from some bug.

I know only time will tell but be good to hear opinions .

Can be one of the early signs, what are the cramps like?

MKG · 15/11/2006 23:58

I think this is it. The poo is a good sign.

Hattie05 · 15/11/2006 23:58

Really strong period pains which tingle down my legs, also having pressure in bottom.

From what i can remember of my first labour they are contractions! But i have never really had Braxton hicks so don't know the difference.

Sounds like labour.

Can you sleep? I think you should try, cos if it's labour you'll need your energy when the contractions build.

If you can't sleep, what about a nice bath?

Olihan · 16/11/2006 00:00

Sounds very positive then!! Good luck, try and get some sleep .

Hattie05 · 16/11/2006 00:01

I know i keep telling dp i must go to bed in a min to reserve energy!

I shall do so shortly, thanks guys xx

Will be thinking of you. Now Go to bed!

MKG · 16/11/2006 00:08

Good luck sleeping. If I were you I'd be too excited.

Hattie05 · 16/11/2006 00:13

I am to excited! i keep thinking go to bed - then i think but i'll just wait up a bit longer to see if they get stronger - of course by which time i won't be able to sleep! So far they seem to be 10ish minutes apart. with my first labour i woke with very very strong ones 5 mins apart so i think i did this part in my sleep last time!

Sound like this is it!!!!

Loose poos were a sign for me every time, along with really bad period type pain.

I only got the pressure in my bottom just before they were born.

Have you called the hospital????

Personally i'd be more inclined to go there instead of to bed.

Good Luck. xx

Hattie05 · 16/11/2006 00:16

I'm having a home birth so no need to go anywhere .
I actually feel really unprepared cos of not having a hospital bag packed etc. I've just been instructing dp on where the maternity pads and things are!
I won't call the mw just yet, i am gonna see how things go, hopefully in a min i'll get a wave of sensibleness and go to bed!

btw pressure in bottom is coming and going and baby is also moving - can feel a foot kicking. Is this normal! I know in my first labour i couldn't feel any movements over the pain of the contractions - but as i say i probably slept thru this bit last time.

fussymummy · 16/11/2006 00:21

You're probably feeling the baby move downwards.

Don't you have to call the midwife, just to warn her that she'll be needed SOON!!!!

Do you know what you're having???

MarsLady · 16/11/2006 00:22

Try to sleep honey. It may take some time. If you can't sleep through the contractions then it means that they are good and strong. Honestly, sleep is the best thing you can do right now.

Hattie05 · 16/11/2006 00:25

Aww you're both great!

Fussymummy i will ring her as soon as i have one strong enough to tell me its real.

And mars i know i know i am going to drag myself up there i promise! Would you come round and drag me up there? I'm too excited! I'm not sure i will sleep through these now.

Definately rest, especially if you haven't got to get to hospital.

Just try and get comfy wherever you can, when you can, as you'll need some energy later.

MarsLady · 16/11/2006 00:27

Oh honey don't tempt me. I love births. If you were close I'd come this instant! Now..... Get to your bed young lady!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hattie05 · 16/11/2006 00:29

I will promise, dp is going to run out and get milk and biscuits (important stock you see) then i'm off to bed.

Are you a midwife mars? u make it sound like you've seen lots of births?

MarsLady · 16/11/2006 00:33

I'm a doula babe! And what a fab job to have. Now... no more procrastinating....... GO TO BED!

fussymummy · 16/11/2006 00:33

I was wondering if mars was a midwife.

Either that or she has loads of kids!!!

MarsLady · 16/11/2006 00:36

I also have loads of kids! lol And now that DS1's rugby kit is in the dryer I'm off to my bed.

Will check in tomorrow hattie to see how you're doing. Hoping for an announcement!

Hattie05 · 16/11/2006 00:39

Thank you, i really really am off to bed now

And so.................. any news Hattie or have you had the baby and I've missed the announcement?

Hattie05 · 16/11/2006 17:18

Hello! no - all contractions stopped about 4am. Been to midwives today and she has done a sweep and says i'm 2cm dilated with a favourable cervix and she said she wouldn't be surprised if baby arrives in next 24hrs. I've been walking madly ever since and have non stop cramps. So fingers crossed !!
