Im at 41 weeks overdue and booked in to get induced at exactly 42 weeks. Just wondering if its normal to let you go completely to 42 weeks to be induced? I thought you were meant to be induced before you reached 42 weeks?

Any experiences?

I'm due on 1st July & have been told I'll be induced on 13th July (41 + 6) if things haven't progressed naturally by then (although I bloody hope they do!)

Not sure if this helps?

Good luck, I'm 39 weeks tomorrow & already fed up waiting!

37-42 weeks is term, no medical need to induce before 42 weeks unless otherwise indicated.

I'm 39 weeks same time I've got a midwife app today she will prob tell me the same thing :-(

With ds I wasn't induced until 42 weeks because I kept putting it off. He arrived at 42+1.

I was induced at 41+6 (well I went into hospital that evening, nothing much was done until the following day and DD was born then, bang on 42w). I think it varies by area. The longer they leave it the better chance of it all kicking off naturally Smile

I was induced at exactly 42 weeks, the maternity notes said they'd do it at 40+12 so I was gutted when they said they wouldn't book me in until 42 weeks anyway! I think it just differs by area. I was low risk and very low priority on the day too so don't think they saw it as a dangerous thing reaching that stage

Different hospitals have different guidelines. 42 weeks is the later end of what is "usual"

HighOverTheFenceLeapsSunnyJim · 27/06/2015 21:07

42 weeks is still "normal" gestation.

In my area they induce you at term + 12 so that you deliver by term + 14 in case you have a long labour.
