Bleeding in labour

kdinas · 14/11/2006 11:38

I have been having contractions since 3.30 this morning, they are now coming every10 mins and lasting 1.5 mins.
I know I am in labour, the intensity is increasing etc, I am changing what I am doing and they are not slowing down.
However I have just been to the loo, had another poo, and have started bleeding.
Is this bad, I don't know what to do.
I have put on a pad, my uterus does not feel sore to to touch, I don't feel ill.
But the blood is bright red.
Is this more bloody show?

you need to ring your labour ward and tell all this....NOW

kdinas · 14/11/2006 12:00

ok, the blood has calmed down, to the point that the pad is not even stained.
still having contrxns

I believe it can be quite normal to bleed when the cervix is dilating quickly, but to put your mind at rest I would just ring the labour ward and double check.

Good luck

I bled really heavily when I first got to hospital and the MW did not seem to think it was unusual or anything to worry about - she just stuck a maternity pad down there.

kdinas · 14/11/2006 12:19

Thanks for the replies.
Not had this before, 4th child too.
Or maybe I don't remember, most likely!
still continuing, contxs.
must re-check hospital bag
Phone dh soon, need help with ds, plus getting other ds from school, plus need someone to moan at,

Think bleeding in labour is also something that comes from having low iron levels too. defo ring delivery and ask the question though.

lulumama · 14/11/2006 12:28

bleeding in labour not neccesarily a bad thing....unless you have placenta praevia or the like....

was thinking about you today.! glad you are on the way.....

lulumama · 14/11/2006 12:29

call labour ward anyway as you will be on the way later..! any pain in your scar area?

munz · 14/11/2006 12:33

yes right now, I had this in the early stages and went in straight away deffo go to the ward. I was 2cm it turned out I went from 0 to 2 in about an hour which was too quick for my body or soemthing?? anyhow bled all the way from 2pm to after he was born had to have 2 packs of blood as I was so anemic. not to worry u but best to be safe I feel now as a result of that

kdinas · 14/11/2006 12:38

Hi lulu!
No pain in scar, have rung labour ward, they said to come in soon as possible.
It won't be possible until I have been cx's every four to five min for about an hour, me thinks!
Gonna try to have lunch while I can, x

I did this too - in both labours - was told it was usually to do with 'keen' cervix dilating too fast (but they spent a bit of time panic-ing me/suggesting it could be 101 more complicated things first eg placenta praevia/coming away etc)
Good luck!!!

lulumama · 14/11/2006 12:39

goooooooood luck....xxxxxxxxxxxxx happy birthing vibes...........
big hugs.....!

zippy34 · 14/11/2006 12:44

Good luck!!!

Hope it's all nice and quick (once you've got your childcare etc sorted though!!)

tassis · 14/11/2006 12:50

Good luck, sound like you'll be holding you LO in no time.

My labour started with big bleed this time too (before contractions even started) and dd was born only a few hours later.

They may like to check it's not the placenta...sometimes they'll scan for this...

chelle479 · 14/11/2006 16:50

oooooo congrats kdinas

I cant wait for my baby to arrive lol, wishing you lots of luck, and a quick labour

hugs chelle

i apparently had blood in my waters when they did an ARM in hospital for failure to progress. they monitored me throughout and lucky they did as dd had cord round her shoulder and became distressed and had to be delivered very quickly.

go to hospital immediatly and have them examine you.

My mum in law said the first sign she had that she was in labour with my fiance was that she started bleeding heavily, she was about 38 weeks pregnant. Everything was fine and he was born 7 hours later!
