Planned c section. Have I made right choice?

I have a planned section booked for 12th, went for a scan yesterday where they said baby's growth had slowed and asked how I would feel about having section on 5th instead. This scared the hell out of me. I said no. They have now booked me for monitoring on 4th and 8th and are doing section on 10th.
Have I done the right thing saying no? Will baby be ok until then?

Your doctors are in the best place to answer that. Are they worried that baby's growth has slowed down too much? Why don't you want the CS a week early?

Id go with their clinical opinions because I do t know any better than the doctors. why on earth would you disagree?

My birth partner is away until Saturday (no way of getting back sooner). Surely if they were majorly concerned yesterday they wouldn't have given me a choice?

Possibly but they certainly would not have suggested it, along with a firm date. There are few absolutes in birth and for them to bring that up would indicate there's signigicant cause for concern. What did they say when you refused?

FWIW I was admitted early with a low placenta and unstable lie. The way the consultant phrased it was "we would like you to consider" and "we think that the best approach is to admit you" which was all v gentle. Then DH asked what would happen if anything went wrong and the doc said "if she dilates and the cord drops, we have 10 minutes to get the baby out. You live more than 10 minutes away."
And that rather put things in perspective. In your shoes Id ring the consultant and ask some probing questions.

I realise it's not ideal but in your situation I'd be following advice, after asking a few more probing questions.

I agree with pps. I think you should ask more questions about the risks of leaving it till later. They would not be suggesting you bring it forward without good reason. I absolutely sympathise about not having your birth partner around. I've got a section planned and would be really scared and upset to go through it without my DH, and for him to miss the birth. It would be so far away from what I'd envisaged. However, I would rather that than risk the baby. Do you think you were in shock when they suggested moving it forward?

If on the 4th they say again about it on the 5th I will go with it. I was in shock when he said yesterday which probably didn't help my answer.

Oh poor you, can imagine why you refused when you weren't expecting it and you want your partner with you.

You still have time on your side so you haven't made any wrong decisions. Maybe between now and 4th write down some questions you can ask at your next appt and make a more measured decision. If they originally suggested 5th then you can still work to that timescale.

How far along are you? Don't worry, you have a scan on the 4th anyway so you can ask again then and if they need to do it then (and explain to you why) then I expect they'll book you in or do it if needed. Sounds obvious but get your bag packed in case for your next appointment. All the best

I am 38 weeks. Bags are already packed, ready to put in the car on Thursday just in case..
I am not having a scan on thursday, just being put on monitor.
I'm so scared and worried it's unreal!

Anon24,try not to get worked up.
If anything even remotely serious was concerning the medical staff they would have told you and wanted to admit you/monitor you/do section/start labour.
The fact they haven't says that they are just being cautious.
Relax,try to rest,enjoy the bliss that is being able to do absolutely nothing.
When you go in tomorrow you can discuss your/their concerns.
At 38 weeks your baby is considered full term,so please,try to relax.

esp if there are concerns about growth
and your already full term
I know too many people that have had still births and wouldn't take any risks even if it ment I was alone at the birth or didn't have the partner of choice

I have been to see midwife today, she doesn't seem too concerned and said if consultant had been worried he would have admitted me or told me Id have to have section this week. Baby's heartbeat is fine and movements are also fine. She told me to speak to consultant tomorrow and if I want section done this week to ask if the slot is still available..x

Monitoring also went well yesterday, no concerns with heartbeat or movements. Back again Monday for monitoring x
