Can you shower the day after an ELCS?

With my previous sections, I wasn't allowed to shower the next day, I had to wait until I'd been in two nights to be able to.

Has that changed now a one night stay is the norm? Thanks

I had a shower the day after both of my CS. However the first I felt dreadful and nearly fainted, esp when I tried to wash my hair (hands above head). The second one I made DH come in with me and didn't attempt hair wash.

I showered the day after. Was advised how to by the nurses. Didn't realise anyone wouldn't.

i showered too! felt so much better after.

I was told to get up and shower by the mws the morning after.

I desperately wanted a shower or a bath and was told by a passing midwife that I couldn't have either for 5 days! I made do in hospital with a crappy standup wash.

A couple of days later, when I was home, a different midwife told me that baths or showers are most definitely allowed/encouraged the day after. Apparently the chronically ill-informed midwife who told me that I'd have to stink for 5 days was about to be sent for reprogramming.

Oh that's good to hear! I felt horrible after the first night because of the hormonw sweats and greasy hair, but was told I couldnt get the dressing wet for 48 hours. Hopefully that's changed then

Yes. I did both times.

withalittlebitofluck · 19/05/2015 23:00

Yes I did all 4 times ??. It wasn't great passed out last time, just do it slowly.

Shower really helped with the epidural itching

Section at 7pm, shower at 11am next day.

My midwife was pretty much frog marching us into the shower (she was nice but there was absolutely no option to not shower). They were very very keen to get everyone up and walking.

They did put a plastic chair in there though so you could sit down if you needed to.

There is no reason not to shower post op. As some of you have found, it is he after effects of surgery/childbirth that can cause problems.
Having a chair is ideal. Wounds can be exposed for a shower, even on Day 1, but never 'wash' the wound. Just let water over it. A clean dressing can be applied if required.
It is definitely better to get up and shower! Everyone feels better after it.

I am pretty sure that I showered the same day, but my memory is a bit hazy. I had a chair in the shower and my husband came in as well to help.

Dildals · 20/05/2015 13:07

I had the CS quite early though and only showered in the evening.

Yes. I had a HCA with me to help - she helped me get clean, made sure I didn't collapse, removed the dressing (I think)

Hulababy · 27/05/2015 17:23

Yes. Dd was born in the evening and I had a shower the next morning. They gave me a chair to sit on in the shower if I needed it and told to use alarm if any issues.
