Advice on tens machine

Hi there can anyone shed some light on using a tens machine during labour. Is it effective? Is it better to hire or purchase one? X

I bought a miracle tens which was quite cheap - and I used it for both labours. For my second, it was the only pain relief I had, because it all happened quickly. It definitely helped me a lot, particularly in the early stages. My MIL has now borrowed it for her back pain!

GET ONE! I managed 19 hours of labour with mine before I went into hospital and it was a miracle. It was my NDN who recommended them and it would be the first thing on my labour list for next time!

I hired an Elle one from Mothercare and it came with spare batteries and pads and stuff and I just sent it back a couple of weeks after DD was born.

I used my obi tens machine from boots for all 3 dc, was about £40 to buy and was fantastic can't recommend enough, used it for pregnancy back pain too

I think with some machines though, you are recommended to not use until you are over 38 weeks - so just check the product info.
If you are planning on having more than one child then you might as well buy one!

Omg I loved my TENS machine. It's absolutely a distraction thing rather than actual pain relief but the sudden change in sensation (by hitting the pulse button) really seemed to dull the pain when a contraction hit.

Thank you ladies. Will definitely go get one tomorrow! Im 38weeks and this is my first child so have absolutely no idea what to expect. My threshold for pain isnt very high so every little helps. Having said that i refuse to get an epidural since i have a phobia of needles xx
