How long was your VBAC labour?

Questi0ns · 23/04/2015 13:21

And how long was your CS labour (or not if planned section)..?

Pantone363 · 23/04/2015 13:23

VBAC 8hrs

2 previous labours 6 hrs and 2hrs

VBAC was my easiest

Questi0ns · 23/04/2015 13:25

Thank you! So your VBAC was longer. But 8 hours seems ok.. Did you fully dilate for the previous births?

So embarrassed I spelt "labour".. I blame the election..

ELCS so no labour
VBAC 1 - 3 hours
VBAC 2 - 1 hour
VBAC 3 - 4 contractions.

I had 'false labour' with each VBAC, contractions on and off all day but nothing regular. Waters broke right at the end with each.

Dc4 (VBAC3) was monitored due to a diagnosed heart condition. The trace shows that I never really reached 'established' labour as my contractions never became regular. However, once my waters were accidentally broken Hmm, I had 4 contractions before he was born!

HippyChickMama · 23/04/2015 13:41

I had an emergency c sec after 36 hours in labour with ds (induced but he was posterior-brow and eventually facial presentation). VBAC spontaneous labour, had latent stage contractions for 3 days but once it got going 12 hours.

Questi0ns · 24/04/2015 20:26

Anyone else..? Still clutching at straws and hoping for shorter this time....

OP posts:
Fernfrond · 25/04/2015 10:57

First labour 2.5 hours from first contraction to 8cm (waters broke with first contraction), then C-section for undiagnosed breech.
VBAC - random mild contractions all day, went into hospital when they started getting painful. Stayed at 2cm for an hour until Registrar broke my waters cos his head was so high and contractions weren't achieving anything (I think). Then 1 hour to go from 2cm to 10cm, 1 hour of pushing. I'm hoping if we have another one the pushing might be quicker...
So yes shorter for the effective labour part. Good luck :)

chancer2014 · 25/04/2015 11:05

VBAC labour was 1.5 hrs, but induced. It was great.

elliejjtiny · 25/04/2015 15:04

Before C-section 1 - 4.5 hours
Before C-section 2 - 1.5 hours
Before C-section 3 - 2 hours
C-section with no labour
Attempted VBAC - 50 minutes, then EMCS at 5cm dilated

Sorry, that's probably not very reassuring.

seamistbythesea · 25/04/2015 15:12

I had EMCS some years ago. This time they said they will let me go into labour if happens naturally before 39 weeks (I have some other complications) - however will be very closely monitored because of c-section scar splitting - urgghhhhhh! If any distress shown in baby will be c-section. The way they were talking it will be a c-section. They won't induce me this time as last time it was tried and absolutely nothing happened at all and is harder to induce after previous c-section....

So I too am wondering if because had CS last time will this be almost like a first labour ie. not likely to start before 39 weeks, and likely to be long :(

What has your consultant said to you?

Questi0ns · 25/04/2015 18:02

I'm booked for a section at 41 weeks if I don't go into labour before then. I wasn't offered any form of induction.

chancer how were you induced?
First labour was 2 days, got to fully dilated and pushed so I'm wondering if that will help this time?

Even though baby didn't actually come out that way.. They almost did..

Ds- elcs for transverse lie

Dd- home vbac. 7.5 hours and very rapid 2nd stage. After 10 days of early/stop start labour

WeeMadArthur · 25/04/2015 19:19

Vbac was 12 hours from waters breaking till getting to 10cm dilated, then about 6.5 hours until DS popped out.

chosenone · 25/04/2015 19:26

First DC-41 hours labouring and then emcs after failure to dilate. Only 8cms and back to back.
2nd DC-4.5 hour natural labour 10 days post due date (was booked for induction on 11th day)

nousernamesleft · 25/04/2015 19:57

C section 1 - no labour (crash c section due to placental abruption)
Vbac - from waters breaking to 2 cm, with one lot of gel (42 weeks) - 60 hours. 2-10 cm 30 minutes. 90 minutes from 10-birth.
Probably not what you wanted to hear, sorry.

jaykay34 · 28/04/2015 06:43

My Vbac was 4 and a half hours. I went into labour naturally, and it all happened pretty fast ! He came out in 4 pushes Smile .

Not me, my friend:
1: 36 hr labour, FTP, EMCS
2: about 14 hours manageable at home, hospital at midnight, baby born 5am.

2boys2girls · 28/04/2015 06:54

All 4 induced
1st 5hrs
2nd 3hrs
3rd 7hrs
4th 4hrs

Kantha · 28/04/2015 07:01

Arrived at hospital at 3pm with fairly low key contractions. DS born at 10pm. No pain relief all very easy ( unlike DS1)

fireflyz · 28/04/2015 08:45

Had induction, labour for approx 8 or 9 hours, got to 9cm dilation, then exhausted so had forceps which failed, then EMCS for DC1.
For DC2,to hospital 9cm dilated without realising it (was asleep and woke at midnight needing to go to the loo - or so I thought!) and had approx 3.5 hours labour from arrival in hospital to birth with gas and air only, then epidural, forceps and episiotomy at the end.
I'd booked in for an elective CS for DC2 but was getting quite nervous about going in cold for it so was glad to have avoided it, although I was in operating theatre at the end of DC2s labour and was fully aware that we could still have needed a CS.

  1. Waters broke spontaneously with contractions starting within 4 hours. Laboured for about 48 hours after that, dilated to 6cms and got stuck there for 12 hrs plus so went to EMCS for failure to progress
  2. Waters broke spontaneously with contractions 2.5 mins apart within 4 hours. Baby born exactly 12 hours after waters broke.
