Don't spare me- is this normal down there???

Hi,

I have birth 2 weeks ago vaginally to my second dc. He was 8lb 2 oz at birth and I only had apparently a labial tear so a tiny stich.

I've today looked ' down there' and my vagina looks massive! It goes nearly to my bum hole and looks much bigger than before. ( and feels it too)

Is this normal? My epidiotomy scar from my first Dc is now no longer at the bottom of my vagjna and im really worried it's not normal.

I'm not in pain and surely the MW would have done something at the time if it was torn? ( I also had a mw check my stitches a week after I gave birth) and she said it all looked fine.

Am I just being paranoid? Is this normal for childbirth and will it affect sex? ( the opening is now much bigger )

Ahh, I made the mistake of, er,checking the situation too soon after birth and was horrified too! There was a distinct, gapiness that certainly hadn't been there before and it was basically a train wreck!

Having said that, 2 weeks is NOTHING when you consider all the pressure and trauma of not only the birth but the pregnancy too.

By the time I was brave enough to check again (DS was about 6 months!) and it all looked totally back to normal.

Try not to worry just keep up pelvic floor exercises and time should pop everything back in place. If you have any on going pain or discomfort, ask your midwife/GP to check but it sounds normal to me.

I made the mistake of looking down there after ds2, it looked like road kill. Thankfully it (mostly) stretched back.

It takes a not more than two weeks to go back to its normal size, but it will get there. If there are any issues they should be picked up at your 6 week check.

Yeh I was panicking coz i looked this time and everything was so swollen and bulging and weird. Convinced myself I had a prolapse and was broken. By 5/6 weeks everything was back to 'normal' x

CaramellaDeVille · 17/04/2015 03:53

I did the same! Echoing what others have said, it will go back with a bit of time :)

TheTruffleHunter · 17/04/2015 04:17

mine looked horrendous! And I ended up having a c-secion anyway.. all ok maybe 3/4 weeks on, don' worry

LittleRedDinosaur · 17/04/2015 04:48

I had an episiotomy, a third degree tear, a wound infection and then all my stitches broke down. It was like Texas chainsaw massacre for a bit. Looks normal again now- stop looking, it'll all be fine!

FeelTheNoise · 20/04/2015 19:38

Please don't torture yourself! I looked after a couple of weeks and was devastated Sad all was fine a few months later Smile

FeelTheNoise · 20/04/2015 19:38

In fact with this baby, I won't look until at least after baby's 6 month birthday Grin

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 20/04/2015 19:47

I'm 17 months on and still haven't looked! Don't know how people can bear to after 2 weeks Confused. I just got DH to tell me whether it felt 'normal' or not!
