39+6 today and had sweep down this am at consultant. Had bishop score of 9- nearly fully effaced, soft cervix and 2cm dialated.

This is my second baby. Couldn't have sweep done with first as so unfavourable- was Induced at 12 days over with her- had pessary, 3 lots of gel and then drip ending in 19 hr labour with forceps/ epidiotomy and then PPH.

Am keen to hear any positive experiences of sweeps starting things? Since my sweep this am I have quite back back ache and mild cramps- is this looking good??

I had sweeps with both my dc's & both where successful. With dd (1st pregnancy) I had a sweep at 40+4 at 4pm & had her the next day at 10.50pm. With ds I had the sweep at 39+3 at 11am & had him at 3.15pm the next day. Both times I was 2cm dilated with a soft cervix & with ds the midwife said she could feel his head! I had mild crampy pains after both that got stronger the following morning until they were definite contractions. Good luck - it won't be long now!

Good luck and fingers crossed! I had a sweep with dc3, around lunchtime three days over due date, felt cramps and uncomfortable, went into labour around midnight and had our baby by 3am. I felt a definite change as soon as I had my sweep and convinced it kick started things. In saying that, if things are favourable enough for a sweep I guess things might move along anyway. I have a friend who is sure labour was kick started by sweeps the day before she gave birth with both her children and another who had their baby that night after a sweep that day. I was sceptical before this dc but not now!!! All the best hope you soon have your baby in your arms!

Hi Cisforcat - met you on a couple of 'fed up of being pregnant now' threads so wanted to say HURRAH for the sweep and GOOD LUCK Flowers Grin

I had a sweep at 40+1 with a Bishop's score of 8. By 40+5 Bishop's had gone up to 12 and my hindwaters broke on 40+6. DD arrived just over 24 hours later naturally Smile

Good luck! Flowers

Had a sweep at 1:30 pm last Thursday. Baby arrived 12 hours later. Went home ok, got mild cramps pain around 3, progressively worse. Did have an incredibly short labour though.

Just to update - sweep at 11, baby Jack born after 20 min labour at 22.22 day before his due date!
Guessing I'll add to the positive experiences now Grin

39+6 here too! 1st baby but so pleased I've read this thread. I'm so impatient that I just want to meet baby now so was planning on asking mw for a sweep tomorrow but have heard from some people that some won't do a sweep until 41 weeks?! Anyone had thus?! I really want baby before the weekend.

CookPassBabtrigde · 01/04/2015 10:51

I had a sweep at 40+1 but cervix was still quite high up tilted back and was only 0.5 cm, so the midwife said i would probably need another at the next appointment. She was wrong however :)
I had the sweep on the Friday afternoon and labour started early hours on Saturday morning. Mild cramps are good! Good luck!
