Can I chose an elective c section?

Hi

Currently pregnant with my second and even though it's early days I've started to think about labour.

My first labour was pretty bad, induction follows by 27hrs of labour which ended up with forceps and narrowly missed an emergency section. My lo came out at 9lb 13 and everyone admitted there was no way she was coming out naturally.

Anyway my concern is the likelihood of having another big baby. I know the chances are high (we were all massive babies) and I'm really nervous about forceps or indeed an emergency section. I would rather a planned section than either option. The reason being I feel both me and my baby came away from forceps luckily unscathed but I am genuinely terrified one or neither of us will be as lucky this time.

I haven't researched a section yet and plan to discuss this with my mw but where do I stand? Can I rewiest growth scans for big baby? I measured correct at all my appoibtments but baby was huge (weight and length) and was part hiding in my back.

Any advice? Also what is recovery like? My vbac recovery was pretty good I would say, no pain by 6 weeks and fully healed and "normal" down below again :)

Ps I'm in Scotland if that makes a difference?

You can request a c section for whatever reason you want- have a Google to fine the NICE guidance on it. The hospitals have to follow it. You'll probably have to talk to a consultant and listen when they explain the risks but ultimately it is up to you.
I had a section recently with DS- Elective section after induction first time, high forceps, episiotomy and third degree tear. It was much nicer than the first time round! But very painful for the first few days; it was a good few weeks before I could pick up DD for example.

I am also unsure of this. I had a very similar birth to you last year and am having nightmares (literally!) about number 2. Although the NICE guidelines say you can request one, I am concerned as I have heard people say that they were refused for similar reasons. I lost 2.5 litres of blood the first time and don't want a repeat of that, or forceps etc. I wish they had just done the c section the first time as I was scrubbed and ready when they changed their minds
