1st - how long did you bleed for after the birth? I'm still bleeding 14 days later not heavy more like a light period but it's been thar light for over a week now.
2nd - when did you start taking the pill again? Do you have to wait til after 6 week check or start it whenever you want? Do I need to wait til I get a period again?

  1. 8 weeks with both dc.
  2. No idea sorry as didn't take it
CaptainAnkles · 08/03/2015 21:46
  1. Bleeding stopped six weeks after DC1, five weeks after DC2.
  2. I can't take the pill as it makes me ill so I can't help there, sorry
CitizenOfTheWorld · 08/03/2015 21:47

1- 3 1/2 weeks
2- whenever you want. If you are bf only a progesterone pill (not combined) ideally making sure there's no chance you are pregnant I.e. Take the pill before having sex, take it for a week, then have sex.

  1. 6-ish weeks after vaginal delivery
  2. I was told you have to wait until your first period and to use condoms before that not that I was remotely in the mood for anything, mind
BictoriaVeckham · 08/03/2015 21:49

1/ up to 6-7 weeks normal (ish) but get checked. I had retained placenta and this wasn't picked up at 7'weeks when I said I was still bleeding

2/ they'll probably speak to you about contraception at 6 week check. If bf'ing don't assume you are protected. Friend got caught on first time dtd after child birth and there is literally 10 months between her children! Also if bf'ing you may have to go on mini pill.

9 weeks DC1 but it had tailed off to barely anything for that last week.
6 weeks DC2

The doctor will discuss contraception with you at the 6wk check as the medical advise it to wait to have sex until after the 6wk check. You obv can have sex sooner but most people don't feel ready to that early anyway. However you are supposedly very fertile in the weeks after giving birth (or so my midwife told me??)

  1. 8 weeks with DD1 and 5 weeks with DD2 although most people I have spoken to only had a week or two Confused.
  1. I started taking the pill when I'd started my first period but I'm not sure whether you have to, I think I just presumed at the time. I would ask the Gp.
Jackieharris · 08/03/2015 21:54
  1. 6 weeks

  2. you could get pregnant again straight away, before you've even had a period so use condoms until you get the pill sorted.

If bf you can't take the combined pill but can take the pop (cerazette) ius, depo provera, implant. Don't have sex without a condom until you have been taking hormonal contraception for at least a week.

With ff, don't know- ask your gp.

Personally I wouldn't want to take any hormones so soon after giving birth when your hormones are still all over the place from the pregnancy and birth.

There's always the coil or the diaphragm.

Thanks I'm not bf I was on the mini pill before ttc so I've got some ready to take. Think I'll wait til I've stopped bleeding then start it it's not like I'll be wanting to dtd until after that anyway.

Took almost 10 weeks for bleeding to stop (which was far longer than all my friends so I freaked out but there was no need to)
Not gone back on the pill as after coming off it to ttc I found that it had been having a severe effect on my moods but didn't realise until I stopped it.

Levismum · 12/03/2015 22:13

I bleed for about 6-8weeks. Depends on the Pill, mini pill? 3 weeks.
No postnatal check available in this area so check you might need to make an appointment to see the GP or family planning .
