Waters have gone - but bloodstained

At about 6.45pm this evening my waters broke - I was wondering how I'd know that they had, but OH MY GOD there was so much! I lost so much fluid, was quite alarming. Felt like that old woman from Little Britain who just stands there weeing constantly. I phoned delivery suite, who just said to stay at home and rest as I'm not having any contractions. Since then I've put a pad on and noticed that the liquid is pale pink. There was also a tiny little clot of blood when I wiped. Is it normal for the waters to be bloodstained? I called the delivery suite again and they said it could just be the show. I want to relax and conserve my energy - but v. worried!

Sounds like the show... was it jelly like?

fishie · 20/10/2006 20:55

yes that sounds fine - mine were like that. how are you feeling otherwise? exciting and frightening isn't it.

7up · 20/10/2006 20:55

QueenQuootieSpookypieBee · 20/10/2006 20:56

get some sleep before contractions come... im excited for you

CalistaMyers · 20/10/2006 20:57

Lol @ 'woman off LB'!

Don't want to worry you - could very well be the show. Mine were bloodstained with ds2, the midwife went to speak to the consultant and I had to go on continuous monitoring (of the baby) until he was born.

Hope everything goes well for you, you'll be holding him/her in your arms soon!

it is normal for some blood to be lost ..not gallons ..but some at this stage.....rest and conserve your energy

so excited for you

if you can remember one thing in labour

don't fight the pain, welcome each contraction as it will bring the baby closer to you...and listen to your body.....!

try and eat a little...soemthing light and nutritious and sip water..

i won't sleep tonight!

blob2be · 20/10/2006 21:19

Oh, thank you everybody. Is only very pale pink. Called the delivery suite again. They told me was completely normal. Need to calm down and think positive!

Hello! Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you! As you probably guessed I have just been rushed off my feet with our new baby - Henry, who weighed 8lbs 8oz and was born after a difficult posterior labour - but I still managed to stick to my birth plan and just got by on gas and air! Am quite proud of myself for that!!! Henry is absolutely amazing, I just can't believe he's mine, and so perfect. I am in a bit of a rush right now as he's due for a feed and I can hear him stirring. Thanks so much for all your reassurance in the early stages of my labour, you really saved me from a major panic attack! It's funny how I was more reassured by Mumsnetters than I was by the hospital staff! Will be in touch again as soon as I can xxxxxxxxxxxxx
