Opinions on Frimley park and royal surrey county hospitals please

Hi,

I just wondered if anyone has had any experience at either of these hospitals? I'm based in Chertsey and have been to my local EPU today to recieve what can only be described as the worst possible care. This is not the first time this has happened in this hospital and it has completely put me off using them in future. i would really appreciate any information. Thanks

Never used Royal Surrey but currently being looked after by Frimley hospital and they have been lovely. Lots of new facilities and renovations :)

Only thing to add though is St Peter’s Hospital - which I presume is your local, has Level 3 NICU facilities onsite - bliss.ritdns.com/different-levels-of-care. Not sure if Royal Surrey or Frimley Park have the highest level of care available should your baby be born prematurely or experience breathing issues when born so it is worth checking.

I don't think Frimley or Surrey have the same NICU facilities, but both are lovely hospitals.

Frimley Park has had lots recent renovations and the Royal Surrey has excellent staff and is always efficient and straight forward. I go to both regularly.

I'm not sure either will be suitable if you need NICU facilities, though.

I gave birth at Frimley in 2012, I had a great overall experience there, from EPU, consultant led care, great midwife and the doctors who dealt with me for an operation straight after, I would highly recommend it.

A friend of mine suffered pre-eclampsia and got great care at St Peters - she was there for the best part of a week. My closest is Frimley and I have only experienced A&E for my DP and that was very good, although he was given an OOH referral and was seen quite quickly for that reason I think. Another friend had surgery at Frimley and couldn't speak highly enough of the place.

I have a friend in her final year of paediatric nursing at uni and her preferred two hospitals for working at when qualified are St Peters & Frimley, because the variety of childcare at both.

Had ds2 and ds3 at frimley and care was fantastic.

OK just checked:

Royal Surrey is a Level 1 SCBU - www.royalsurrey.nhs.uk/Services/Paediatrics

Frimley Park is now a Level 2 NNU

St Peter's has a Level 3 NICU facilities ...

So just be aware that in the unlikely event your baby is premature or experiences issues after birth requiring further treatment - you may end up getting transferred back to St Peter's!

Have friends who have given birth at Frimley park, they were really well looked after. I have given birth at Royal surrey (more than once) and had overnight stays in the ante natal ward. I've had really good care tbh.

They seem to have fairly recently refurbished the delivery rooms too, so this time I had a new room and an en-suit shower room, the shower was lovey (and spotlessly clean) which was better then my first visit when it was a shared bath room.

They have some lovely MW's too.

I gave birth at St Peter's last month and had a fantastic experience, even on the labour ward. I'm sorry your experience in EPU was so bad; the antenatal care was always excellent I my experience, though I never had cause to use the EPU.
A friend of mine gave birth at Frimley at the same time and she mentioned that on the post natal ward, partners had to stick to visiting times, whereas at St P's they could stay as long as they liked and come in whenever they liked.

I gave birth in frimley park. Dd and I both had serious complications after birth and I can not fault the treatment that we both received. The fact that dd is here at all is down to the midwives and doctors at frimley park. Therefore frimley park gets my vote everyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

Thanks every one really appreciate your response.
I have heard a number of bad reports on St P and after the experience I have now had twice I can't imagine going back there if I am lucky enough to get that far with this pregnancy. I will do some more research on frimley and royal Surrey and talk to my MW.

I had my DD at frimley in dec 2013 and they were amazing. I cannot fault a thing. The midwifes were amazing, the drs were great and the after care was second to none. They even took DD off me through the night to let me sleep!! I was in for 4 days due to also being induced which took 3 and throughout they were spot on. Highly recommend them !

There is a lovely new Birth Centre at East Surrey Hospital. Has anyone any experience of this?

I had DS at the Royal Surrey in 2013. Birth and aftercare great, but they let us go after 2 days despite DS being 4 weeks premature and jaundiced. We had to go back after a week for jaundice treatment and were told "we know you'd be back". My husband is still rather annoyed about that.
Apart from that though, I can't really fault them.
