Did you just know that you were going to go into labour?

I'm 37+2 today and just don't feel very well, nausea and things and it got me thinking do people have a feeling that labour is close? Do you feel abit funny and were there any signs?

I'm not expecting to go into labour anytime soon I was just curious! Thanks :)

I just got some period like pains the day I had a sweep . They were quite regular but not really sore.

I was in labour denial though and proceeded to order and eat a pizza until dh made me go to hospital

So it was definitely manageable until I got to hospital.

Nope! No warning signs whatsoever. I was laying in bed making a shopping list in my head having decided that baby wasn't, in fact going to arrive before Christmas, stood up and my waters broke. No BHs, cramps, nesting, nausea, nothing, just stood up, thought I'd pissed myself a bit then 5 minutes later a film-like splash!

None at all. I was in bed reading a book n bam waters went. I'd had no warning at all, no twinges or cramps, no nausea nothig. I was 40+3 when I went Into labour. Some women do however have noticeable signs. Good luck!

No, not really. I was just extra tired that day and my swelling (had crazy swollen feet and hands) was terrible. Otherwise no different, then all of a sudden contractions 5 mins apart! I'm 38.2 with DC2 and am still obsessed with seeing 'signs' even though I know that there will probably be nothing at all. In fact, I think I am worse this time!

Both times I went into a real calm state, when the contractions started up I was very matter of fact about it all. I stayed in that state of mind throughout the 27/24 hours both labours lasted.

With my first my contractions started at 4am but I didn't realise that's what they were. Told everyone I was having funny pains and everyone said it was just my body preparing. This was the day before my due date. I had him the next day.

My second mr and my friend we're chatting the night before my due date again, she was saying I wasn't ready yet because my 'face hadn't gone fat'
Had my first contraction a couple of hours later and just knew. They came every couple of minutes after that first one.

Nope DD1 waters broke then nothing (40+4) was drip induced.
DD2 waters went in drips went to be checked (38.4) they said not in labour but keeping you in . HAd 2 contractions when waiting to see doc - but was in denial as they said after 30 mins on the monitor that I wasn't in labour.... Then was sitting filling in paper work with midwife and I said I have to stand up / move 18 mins later dd2 arrived.....

I didn't know.

Had a really busy day shopping and visiting my parents, went home and went to bed planning a second day of shopping and my waters broke in the early hours of the morning.

It's been a while but I think I did get that nesting instinct a few days before. With DS I knew he was happy where he was (40+11) whereas with dd I knew she wanted out pronto (39+5).

No it just started. Within half an hour I could tell there was a pattern. My waters never broke though (midwife did them) and DD took 36 hours and an EMCS to finally arrive.

No idea. I went in to be induced for diabetes and when she put the monitor on I was already contracting.

I still couldn't feel them when I was watching them on the trace!

No - both times it only dawned on me after my "sudden bad SPD pains like period cramps" had been going for some hours and I noticed on the clock that they were every 10 minutes.

They were a couple days and a couple weeks early, so I wasn't paying much attention.

Just had a feeling! My extreme aversion to bananas went and my blood pressure went back down to it's stupidly low level which it had been at booking - that eve, I started having mild contractions and my waters started leaking.

I didn't know either until my first mild contraction which I assumed was my first Braxton hick as it was 3 days before my due date, dd arrived the following lunchtime.

I'm wondering whether I'll be more aware this time although I'm currently sat with mild cramps every 30 minutes and have felt nauseous for 3 days and am convinced this it is even though I'm only 34+5 so highly unlikely.
I think when the time gets close we subconsciously look for anything that could mean the baby is on the way.

Yes I knew, second baby but first.time id had any labour at all. I was finishing a pile of ironing the night before my due date, the one and only.time in my.life I've ever ironed my bedding, the duvet cover was the final item. I just knew when I was halfway through finishing it, I felt sick, and a bit dizzy, and my DMIL was downstairs and I wanted her to fuck off home so I could go into labour. I finished ironing the duvet cover, packed away, popped across the road to meet my cousin's new baby born 10 days previous. Told her I thought this was the start of it, she agreed...

Waters broke 5am the next day with a pop in bed.

Not with my first, I'd had a sweep 2 days previous and at 40+5 at 1am in the morning I had a contraction and then they didn't stop (I'd had a fair few false alarm contractions at night in weeks previous)

With my second I'd had a fantastic nights sleep which had followed an awful night of complete insomnia and felt great. I did a weird bit of nesting where I was painting the wall near the bin in my kitchen on the morning I gave birth which had been looking a bit scruffy which with hind sight should have suggested something to me! I had loads of energy and took my daughter to the park and had what I though was a strong BH on the way which I put down to pushing her in the pram then they just kept coming! I was in denial for ages and went for lunch with my sister who convinced me to call my husband. I gave birth 4 1/2 hrs after that first contraction!

Nope....with dc 1 I had just moved back in with my mum and was top and tailing in bed with my little bro who was six at the time as I hadnt put my bed up etc....my waters broke while I was sleeping. Safe to say I got a new mattress for lil bro! Poor kid
With.dc2 I went into slow labour at 37+5 but didnt have her until 40+1 again no warning. ...unless you class the slow labour as warning it was imminent lol

My contractions started on a Saturday evening but I thought it was BH. I even scheduled a coffee with friends for Sunday morning. I did have something that looked like a 'bloody show' on Saturday morning but the MW's view was just to wait till something else happens.

Well, by 11pm my contraction pain was so bad that I realised it must be the real thing but as the pp said above, I think I went into a kind of denial.

Another thing was that, when I woke up on the Saturday morning, before I saw the show, I had a kind of weird feeling like, I'd better do my tax return RIGHT NOW (deadline was coming up and is been putting it off for ages. It was on my 'before the baby arrives' to do list). And I just manically sped through it on my laptop before I even got our of bed.

Another thing was that exactly a week before the birth I had another blizzare feeling of urgency, I ran to DH shouting, we HAVE to go to ikea!!! I got it into my head suddenly that the chest of drawers we'd converted to a changing area was not good enough and we had to get a proper changing table.

Just to say, basically those two things where I felt I HAD to complete these tasks ASAP were my premonition that the baby was on the way

In hindsight I had a giant hormonal sob on my friend and DP the night I unexpectedly delivered dS3 out of the blue (no contractions or anything!)
I just felt like I couldn't do it anymore, the pregnancy, the huge uncomfortable bump, the monitoring etc etc. I cried and cried like never before, then a few hours later my waters burst accompanied by DS's head
