Can you wear glasses whilst having a c section? - I'm really short sighted and won't be able to see baby or DH's face if I don't wear them. I keep forgetting to ask at appointments.

I did!

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 22/01/2015 15:17

Thanks. That's good. It was just when I read the information pack they have given me, it said about all metal items needing to be removed, which got me thinking about glasses. Then I've kept forgetting to ask.

What a bloody good question (and answer).

LikeSilver · 22/01/2015 15:25

My sister wore hers and had no issue but when I had DD I was asked to remove mine because of the metal - so I guess it depends on your hospital?

IBelieveInPink · 22/01/2015 15:29

I did! Can easily be taken off if necessary, but no reason not to have them with you.
I took mine off for the photos after, but had them on throughout....

OohMrDarcy · 22/01/2015 15:32

Mine were removed so all was a little blurry until recovery when I got them bacl

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 22/01/2015 15:51

Ah. So looking 50/50 then on whether they'll allow it. I'll have to check and if they say no plead because I am very shortsighted and really don't like the idea of not being able to make outout anything of baby or DH's face throughout it all.

I wore mine but mine are plastic.

Withdrawn at the poster's request.

I wore mine (not CS but spinal/forceps in theatre)

Thurlow · 22/01/2015 16:07

I didn't have mine on. And yes, I didn't see DD - I remember them waving her in my direction before she was taken to NICU but all I could see was a vague pink blur! So if you are asked to take them off, remember to give them to your DH and put them on when your baby is born.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 22/01/2015 16:17

Thurlow, that's all I'd see a pink blur.

Good idea on getting DH to keep them if they say no to wearing them. Which actually has made me think of another question - does DH keep his normal clothes on under the scrubs or just have scrubs on? If just scrubs, do scrubs have pockets?

OP posts:
cuphat · 22/01/2015 16:19

DH had normal clothes on underneath his gown!

sophie150 · 22/01/2015 16:20

They were quite relaxed for mine. I wore my glasses. Dh wore scrubs on top of clothes and was allowed to take in a camera. Anaesthetist turned unto photographer once I was numb and took loads of photos for us!

Sorehead · 22/01/2015 16:20

My DH had normal clothes on under scrubs (would have been a bit distracting for everyone if he didn't as the scrubs were see through! Grin)

He was also advised to take his phone in (on aeroplane mode) and one of the MW took photos of DS being weighed etc.

clippityclop · 22/01/2015 16:21

I wore mine and would've played hell if they'd tried to prise them off my nose! Dh wore his own clothes under scrubs, not sure about the pocket thing.

mrsmilkymoo · 22/01/2015 16:21

Mine were metal and were allowed.

Tranquilitybaby · 22/01/2015 23:48

I was wondering the same but for contact lenses.

Topsyloulou · 22/01/2015 23:54

I wore my glasses. The metal was only related to jewellery. When I asked about my glasses the midwife said of course I could wear them, no reason to take them off whatsoever.

Dp wore his t-shirt under scrubs but took his jeans off, he was glad he did as it was very warm in theatre. He was allowed to take a camera in but not a phone so make sure you have a camera in your bag as well as your phone.

friendofsadgirl · 22/01/2015 23:59

I couldn't wear my contact lenses but did wear my metal framed specs. DH wore scrubs over clothes and had my phone and jewellery in his pockets. He kept his hairnet as a souvenirHmm

mammmamia · 23/01/2015 00:16

I had a planned section for my twins. I wore my glasses but I think they were plastic. DH had my phone and took loads of photos, I still have them on my phone and love looking at them 5 years later Smile

missnevermind · 23/01/2015 00:21

DH kept his hairnet too as a keepsake.

I wore my glasses throughout. EMCS here too

Bloodyhell11 · 23/01/2015 00:27

EMCS here.DP had normal clothes under theatre greens. I had to take glasses and all jewellry off.

NormaCore · 23/01/2015 00:37

I wore mine during my EMCS.

LiegeAndLief · 24/01/2015 21:14

I had my glasses on (thank god or frankly it would have been terrifying, I am very short sighted) and was also allowed to keep my wedding ring on.
