Being induced tomorrow and feeling nervous

Hi everyone.

Just after some advice off anyone that's ever been induced. I am 41+5 tomorrow and I'm going into hospital in the morning. Feeling really anxious because been reading lots of different views on women being induced. For example: the labour itself being a lot worse and more painful than a natural one rather than a forced one.

I was induced with my 3rd and honestly it was my best birth to date (currently awaiting dc5!). I didn't need a pessary as cervix was slightly dilated so they went straight for breaking waters and drip.

It was very intense and contractions came on thick and fast but they were manageable on gas and air and I found the pushing part very easy (probably pure luck and good positioning!).

Birth was intervention free and I had no tears or cuts. I believe I was very lucky though and I know many people don't have such positive experiences.

I would be tempted to go for more pain relief if I am induced this time around and I've heard people recommend an epidural prior to having the drip.

Echoing Murtles post, I was induced with DD at 42 weeks, straight to the drip and found it actually okay. The pain was very manageable with gas and air and I was silent the whole way through until time to push.

Very narrowly avoided induction with DS because at my induction appointment I'd been having contractions 10 mins apart for 14 hours but they hadn't progressed, but I was 4cm so they gave me another sweep and left me to it. Let's just say I am glad that was our last one! I nearly lost it at the end because the contractions were just too much and no amount of gas or change of position was helping at all and I was bloody shattered by the end. I actually would have had an epidural if it was offered and I couldn't have stressed enough before labour how much I didn't want one. DS is lying snoring next to me now, was well worth it

Induced for my 3rd at 41 + 5. I wasn't feeling anything, but CTG showed I was already in early labour. Pessary in, baby out 8 hours later without further intervention. Bloody marvellous.

I was induced not because I was over 40 weeks but cos of medical complications at 37 weeks. Dont forget many induction 'horror' stories will be from this category. Imho if baby is a bit pre term then an induction will possibly end up with more interventions. Hopefully at almost 42 weeks your baby is queuing up in good position to come out and meet you. I am also being induced tomorrow at 39 weeks, had a sweep last Friday and was apparently favourable, since then have lost some of the plug, really hoping they can go in and break waters. I am very nervous, good luck hope your goes well.
