Sounds like a UTI...

7up · 17/10/2006 21:27

ooo i dont know sorry. bit exciting if its labour though

Rhubarb · 17/10/2006 21:33

If you were in labour you'd know about it!

Probably an infection come back, see your gp tomorrow. Labour is like period pain that gets stronger and comes at regular intervals, shortening as time goes on.

Emskilou · 17/10/2006 21:34

I had UTIs throughout my pgs, they can give you those pains and in some cases trigger premature labour. I would go to the drs tomorrow (if you can wait until then) and get checked and a little reassurance for yourself, you dont need to be stressing and worrying at this satge of your pregnancy. If yo ucant wait and if the pain continues tonight and/or gets worse I would call or go up to the labour ward, not to alarm you but they will do all the necessary tests, check you and baby over and reassure you. Hope this helps x

UTIs can be symptomless in pregnancy.

How long were you on Antibiotics? I think the recommended minimum in pregnancy is 7days - GPs often only prescribe 5days.
I thought they normally prescribe Cephalexin for UTI in preg (thats what I have always had) - maybe amoxycillin is not as effective.

UTI can definately cause contractions as it irritates the uterus (Been there done that...).

GP may not be able to test properly as antibiotics can mask infection when they send urine off for cultures so really hammer home your symptoms.

it was a 7 day course, but its still here. the pains in my back are awfull which made me think it was labour but now im thinking its the infection causing the pain. oh im so hopeless, iv always been induced before so i dont really no what early labour is like.

It may be the UTI or it may be contractions caused by the UTI IYSWIM.

MW kept telling me I had a UTI at 27wks - actually I was in labour. The 2 can definately be mistaken. With the other symptoms I suspect you have a UTI - but may trigger something more.

bluejelly · 17/10/2006 22:47

My labour started with pains in myh back

Piffle · 17/10/2006 22:50

mmm tough one, could be the UTI moved up to inflame kidneys - nephritis - I always got hdeous cramping back pain with cystitis/nephritis
But as people have said it can trigger early labour
Labour would be more regular not stopping starting though.
good luck at the docs yes you should go!

estobi1 · 18/10/2006 10:08

My labour pains started in my back. The intensity of the pain will steadily increase if you are in labour (mine kept starting increasing and then going away for four days before I gave birth). I would just get checked out to put your mind at rest. Good luck

MadameMorticiaMills · 18/10/2006 10:12

My first labour started in my back, however I have also had a kidney infection after a UTI which also felt similar I seem to remember.

Not much help there then. Go and see your doctor.

the3ks · 18/10/2006 10:42

well saw the gp who gave me some different tablets, couldnt tell me wether its the infection causing the pain or not, so helpfull as ever!
i think once it clears the pain should go away.
thanks for all ur replies xx
