hi anyone told they must have a third c section??

I really want to try and experience labour and give birth naturally...maybe even a bathing pool but my midwife says that is impossible.

when I was 27 I had my DS at 28 weeks due to Gd and pre eclampsia

and same with my second but it was monitored until 38 weeks

has anyone else been told they need to have a c section??

After confirming my second section (elective, first was emergency) the consultant told me that if i were to have a third pregnancy it would be a c-section again due to the pressure that the pregnancy and labour can cause on the weakened scar area and could cause it to severely rupture. Perhaps it is because of that?

I was told that I had to have a third section and that it had to be overseen by a consultant. I think it is because of the scarring that happens internally each time. It turned out that I did have a lot of scarring and adhesions it took a long time to get baby out and the surgeon spent quite a lot of time afterwards repairing previous damage.

No, I've just been for a meeting expecting a booking for a third section only to be told it's my choice.

I can also have a water birth as new feotal monitors can go under water! Can you check with the hospital? I have no idea what I want to do now

Thank goodness I went for cs#3 as, like serislou, I took a lot of unpicking before the baby could come out and a lot of putting back together afterwards. This was due to the scarring caused by the previous two. Am hoping that, gynaecologically speaking, my insides are in better shape than they were and there won't be any issues that adhesions can cause in post menopause. I did feel a lot fitter (despite being a lot fatter) after the third one in comparison to the recovery from the previous two.

Your midwife is misinformed.

I have had 2 sections followed by a normal vaginal delivery. (It was great. I didn't have any romantic ideas about wanting to experience vb or anything but was desperate to avoid another planned section which I found a hideously stressful experience, I also had complicated recovery from second c/s and lots of adhesions)

I did a lot of reading around the evidence and whilst it is received wisdom that the third section increases the chances of scar rupture, it is actually by only very small percentage.

Many hospitals will want you to be continuously monitored, and labour under consultant care. I was lucky in that the midwifery team at my local hospital (LWH) were very supportive and happy for me to give birth in the MLW, they also offered pool etc, we were all agreed that if any sign of trouble I would transfer to consultant care and immediate emergency c/s. Everyone was happy with that and the outcome was really good.

Just to add a note - it may depend on the reasons for earlier sections. If the baby needs to come early (for whatever reason, but with previous history of pre-eclampsia/GD I understand it is potentially more likely to happen again) they will not induce you after 2 sections, so CS might be the only possibility.

I would ask to see a consultant at the earliest opportunity to discuss. Then at least you will know and won't be pinning your hopes on something. Are they treating you as high risk?

I had three without incident and was told after the third that my uterus was actually fine and could support a further one. After the second one I was also told like you not to risk a third, so that was unexpected.
