How long was your labour?

Had my first baby recently... From waters broke (1cm) until the baby was out took 4hrs and 16 minutes. I only pushed for 7 minutes about 8/9 pushes in total. I had a small labial tear needing 5 individual stitches not much pain after. Bleeding stopped at around 3 weeks post partum. All round everything went pretty good. How was your labour?

Oh and 2nd degree tear (not sure how many stitches, they didn't say) and stopped bleeding about 6 weeks after birth. Now 15 weeks with DC2 and hoping it's a bit quicker this time Smile

4 hr but i went off like "a badly dosed drip" (quoth the mw) too fast and intense ...ripped like a wet paper bag!!

Quick ain't always perfect!

Sorry to be thick but I don't know how to define the length of labour!
My DD was 13 days overdue. Contractions started on a Friday afternoon. Just low cramps really. We were planning a homebirth so that evening let the labour ward know just to give them a heads up, if they needed to send a midwife out.
Overnight they were 10 mins on the dot. All day Saturday they were irregular, every 3/4/5/6 minutes. At around 5pm we rang midwife and she came to examine me at around 8pm, I was 2cm and she said don't expect anything before tomorrow morning, try and get some rest etc
We went to bed around 10pm and by 11 I was in quite some pain. I was terrified as I thought this was only halfway through, and I was only at the halfway stage of pain... At 11.30 we called her back and said I was really struggling. She came to the house at 00.03 and DD was born at 00.16.
Our paperwork said labour was 1hr 8 minutes, but I don't know what that relates to really!

I think they count established labour from when you are 3cm. Mine was 11 mins as that was the time from when she checked me and found i wasnt 2cm anymore. Looks like she counted it from the time you were really struggling?

From waters breaking I got contractions really strong 3 mins apart and was in labour for 38 hours...pushing for two, back to back and face first. Gas and air, episiotomy and tear and graze.
Dc2 slow labour for 2 weeks active labour 5hours. Pushed for 7 minutes (including breaking my own waters) back to back and face first again! Gas and air. Slight tear butdidnt need stitches.
HHopefully dc3 isnt as awkward!

DD1- 30 hours from waters breaking. Probably 20 hours active labour.
DD2 - under 4 hours from first twinge

Mammanat222 · 23/01/2015 11:13

I posted up-thread about my epic first labour. Thought I'd update as number 2 is now here.

Labour 1 51h (15h officially recorded in my notes)
Labour 2 4h (80 minutes officially recorded in my notes)

So a bit of a difference lol

originalusernamefail · 23/01/2015 11:18

Only one DS so far but,

Latent phase - 36 hours
Active phase - 8 hours
Pushing phase -1hour 55(!) mins (couldn't they round it up to an even 2 hours Angry)

If we are lucky enough for DC2 I hope to follow your example Mamman Grin

18 hours from first contraction to birth. Started at lunchtime, found contractions quite manageable until midnight. Went into birth centre at 1am, examined and 6cm. Spent sone time in the pool with g and a. Got out to push as couldn't find a comfortable position in the water, used a birthing stool in the end. Daughter born at 6.10am. No idea of time pushing, felt like ages.

SoMuchForSubtlety · 23/01/2015 22:13

Are we counting pre-labour?

Six days of pre-labour (what fun) then 9 hours of second stage and an hour of pushing. I suspect I could have cut a few hours off that but I lost my focus in the middle for a while!

Manyproblemsinthishouse · 24/01/2015 11:47

DD - 48 hours from when my waters broke and intense contractions, 74 hours from first real contraction

tumbletumble · 24/01/2015 11:57

DC1 - 27 hrs from waters breaking, 21 hrs from 5cm
DC2 and DC3 - 3.5 hrs from first contraction

RuckAndRoll · 24/01/2015 14:36

38weeks, 1hr 35 from first contraction to in my arms. Luckily I was already in hospital for monitoring my blood pressure.
2hours in theatre being repaired afterwards. Quick is definitely not always best

ch1134 · 08/02/2015 09:37

24 hours. 18 of them established labour in birthing unit with back-to-back baby. After 12 hours there transferred to hospital. Epidural, drip, loss of blood, ventouse, episiotomy and tear....
All in all very traumatic. The pain still haunts me one year on.

jaykay34 · 09/02/2015 05:46

30 hours - Ds1 and DD (twins). Induced and epidural.

4 hours - DS2 - Gas and Air amd laboured naturally. Pushing lasted about 5 minutes.
