How early / late was baby 1 and 2?

How long were labours 1 and 2?

Any details about labours 1 and 2? (interventions etc..)

Basically want to know if you had an easier time and a better experience second time around. Also want to know if your children both arrived early / late?

Am 35w with DC2 and only just getting round to realising this baby actually has to come out !!!

DC1 - 9 days late. 1 week of latent labour since first sweep at 40+2. 10h labour with "slow progres" so reluctantly agreed to drip which prompted them to offer epidural (didn't work) and then being given time limits on how long i can push for before they intervene. Luckily she came out naturally in 19 min of pushing.8 lbs 7 oz. home the next day. 2nd degree tear with stitches

DC2 - 12 days late. refused sweeps and induction. In established labour at 22:30, baby was born at 01:30. Home birth. baby was 9 lbs 9 oz. small graze, no stitches.

All three of my children were the same gestation to within a day (pretty overdue!).

Labour 2 was a lot shorter, quicker and with far fewer complications. No. 1 was a three day hospital marathon with drip and forceps. No. 2 was at home in the pool. Smile

IShallCallYouSquishy · 17/12/2014 21:50

DD 38+6 2hrs 55
DS 38+4 1hr 7 (induction)

IShallCallYouSquishy · 17/12/2014 21:50

Oh and both were about 3 pushes and out Grin

vallinnapod · 18/12/2014 00:43

You are all liars Wink. Second births suck Grin

DS - 6 hours from waters breaking to cuddles. 4 hours worth of not so bad contractions. Water birth in MLU on 2 paracetamol and G&A. (38+4)

DD - 14 hours from waters breaking to cuddles. 8 hours worth of wanting to throw myself under a bus type contractions. Agony! Water birth at home on 2 paracetamol and G&A. (37+6).

Am only 3 hours postpartum so maybe feeling a little raw (all puns intended!) by it all Grin

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 18/12/2014 08:46

congratulations Smile

GrouchyKiwi · 18/12/2014 09:07

Congratulations! Grin

vallinnapod · 18/12/2014 10:28

Thanks! Lovely post birth hormones make it seem like a distant memory Smile

mumxof3x · 19/12/2014 09:54

Congrats vallin :)

Heres mine.

Ds1 was induced at 42weeks, waters broke about 11.15am, started to bleed, midwife didnt really take muchnotice as was saturday 5 days before christmas so was busy and just left me hooked up to monitor (meconium in waters) mum and dp was having to change my sheets and pads for the blood loss. At 3.25pm I said I needed to poo, dp got midwife who told me to push and 3 pushes later at 15.31pm my little boy was born 6ib 11 tore quite bad and ended up in HDU with further blood loss and tachycardia. So labour 4hrs 10 mins. Pushing 6 mins with 3 pushes.

Ds2 spontanious, went into labour on my due date (sunday) contractions every 6 minutes. This went on right until thursday when I was admitted to hos they then swept me which made them go to every 2 mins and extremely painful but 8 hours later I hadnt progressed even half a centimeter. One hour later id progressed a further one and then the following 4 hour id progressed another 3cm so at this point they broke my waters and was ready to push about 40 mins later. Pushing lasted 2hour which ended in vontouse delivery and babys head come out face up (turned out he was back to back and nobody realised) he was also 2ib 5oz bigger then my first. But recovered well with no problems.
So even though ds2s was longer and harder it was better then ds1s as I had no problems.

Ds3s was a great birth :)

mumxof3x · 19/12/2014 09:55

Oh should add ds2 was born fri afternoon so 5 days all in all.

olaflikeswarmhugs · 19/12/2014 09:58

DC1 - 7lbs2 , 7 days over , 11 hour labour , 2nd degree tear

DC2 - 9lbs14 , 5 days over , 2 hour labour , superficial grazing

No interventions with either . HTH Smile

tumbletumble · 19/12/2014 10:05

DC1
8 days late
26 hours from waters breaking, 20 hours from 5cm dilated
No intervention (but I did have an epidural) or complications - just slow!
Episiotomy, lots of stitches

DC2
7 days late
3.5 hours from first contraction, 40 mins from arriving at the hospital
Just gas and air, no complications
Small tear - 3 stitches

DC3
3 days early, otherwise similar to DC2, no stitches

All weighed around 8lb 10oz

PlumpingUpPartridge · 19/12/2014 10:16

DS1 took 29.5 hours to just fucking get out, DS2 shot out with minimal warning (around 5.5 hours)!

It was really odd with DS2 as I was in nowhere near as much pain to start with and only had a bit of G&A between 5.30pm (when waters went) and 10.40pm (when it suddenly got really intense). DH told me to lay off the G&A as I didn't need it enough yet. I hit him Blush

Basically I was wriggling a lot (almost dancing, my sister said) and then it was like I had a line of pain radiating down from the top of my uterus to the base, only it came and went - a bit like landing lights on an airstrip, only with pain Hmm. I flung myself on the bed, removed pants and assumed the position. Apparently the midwife came in (first entrance of hers) and said 'Ello!' as her first view of me was my business end! I didn't notice as I was so busy concentrating on not pooing out my intestines - I honestly thought they were going to come out at one point.

Anyway, he basically shot out onto the table at 11.13. No gentle guidance into the world for DS2! The midwife didn't even get her gloves on Grin

I vastly preferred birth #2, as I'd say it was the same amount of pain overall but that it was compressed into a much smaller period of time and so I didn't have time to get really tired and bored

Mammanat222 · 23/12/2014 10:50

Now I am getting scared !!!

Not had time to even really consider that number 2 will have to come out at some point, and reading through this has made me think "fuck" Grin

I think it's the uncertainty of it all that scares me? This time round I have DS to think of as well so I just feel a bit nervous.

Still got a few weeks left though, I am 36w today and working until I am 38w so hoping baby doesn't come too early!

Dd1 - woke during night at 39+6. Laboured at home with TENS, went into hospital at 8am after badgering midwives. Told was probably BH. First internal at 9.30 and was 9.5cm, born at 10.45.

Dd2 - woke during night at 39+6. Laboured at home with TENS, went into hospital at 8am (no badgering needed this time). First internal at 9.00 and was 4.5cm, born at 10.45.

Only difference was midwives reactions! Dd2 was more painful but I think that's mostly due to expectation (was expecting it to be v painful with dd1 and it wasn't really, with dd2 was hoping it was same as dd1)

YoullLikeItNotaLot · 23/12/2014 11:09

1st baby 3 days early.
2nd baby 1 week early.

1st baby got to 7cm quite easily at home, went to hospital, baby born 3hrs later.
2nd baby took FOREVER to get to 4CM (had strong contractions, minutes apart for hours), but then went from 4cm to baby born within an hour. Baby born in single push.

No stitches either time. Both babies around 9lb - 1st baby 2Oz lighter.

NaiceNickname · 23/12/2014 11:11

Currently at home in early labour with my 2nd, woke at 6am with contractions every 15 mins and they are every 8-10 minutes now. I was booked in for an induction tonight at 8pm, my birthday! Last labour was an induction too so it excited/scared to see how different this one feels Smile
