Evening Primrose Oil

Been reading on another site about putting evening primrose oil up your bits at night to soften cervix & enccourage labour.
Sounds dodgy to me but am willing to consider anything to get this baby out so wondered if anyone with more experience can explain more???DP thinks I have gone potty at even considering it & I am beginning to think I may also be loosing touch with the real world as last thing I want to do is endanger baby & myself.
Thanks

I did it! started at about 37 weeks. It is only supposed to be for ripening the cervix, not bring on labour. It felt a bit 'odd' doing it tbh if you are not used to the sensation! try a 500(mcg?) gel capsule twice a day - (they just dissolve as they would in your stomach) but don't forget to keep pants/pantliner on as they do leak a bit afterwards. HTH

omg, did it work?? i'm up for trying anything!!

well I tried it because I stalled in labour due to failure to progress first time round. A midwife friend of mine recommended it. I was only five days late this time (as opposed to 13 first time round ) and dilated pretty well this time. But at the end of the day who knows?
I think all of these things are meant to help things along, nothing's going to shift that baby until he/she is ready! Good luck.

have heard of it but not tried it.....sex is a definite help in ripening the cervix when you are at term / nearly term - its the prostoglandins...... don't think the primrose oil is dangerous , but i wouldn;t be madly keen on faffing with my cervix....
