Best haemmorhoid treatments?

Ah the glamorous side of life - just pushed out dc2 and after very many indignities I can barely sit down or move with the pain of haemmorhoids. I know time and diet and not being pregnant will help but what helped in terms of short term treatments? I bought anusol and so far it seems hopeless.

I used gerrmoloid suppositories, i got them in boots. They really helped me along with the anusol cream.

I'd go to the doc and get a prescription for something stronger. Germoloids are ok - take stool softeners too. I couldn't leave the house mine were so bad so I called the doctor and he prescribed strong relief (can't remember the name) and my husband picked it up. The midwives kept suggesting anusol but it did nothing. And drink a ton of water.

Laxatives, ice (I haven't done that though because my circulation wouldn't cope so don't know how well it works) either cubes in a towel or put water into the fingers of a rubber glove and freeze it... Speak to your GP for help.

I ended up in A&E about a month ago because I realised that they had become thrombosed, they gave me syringes full of anaesthetic and strong painkillers. I saw the consultant last week and had some of them banded, she's missed some I found out last time I went to the loo. I've got surgery in about six months to get rid of anything else under GA. I have had them since I was a teen and I really wish I had pushed sooner to have it sorted. Don't ignore them.

Thanks guys I think I'll get a Dr appt as literally every time I move it's hurting but also pick up some germaloid! I definitely don't want a worse problem! It's a good job babies are beautiful eh? I've had quite enough of having strange people look at my bits...

Get a prescription for Scheriproct. You should feel relief very quickly . Poor you !

So I went to the doctors today (7weeks pp). I thought I had a pile and a mild prolapse but she said it wasn't a pile it was just stitches healing, also I don't have a prolapse its normal and that area will pull up. She said healing can take 6 months to a year. Ok so why does the midwifes make it out like oh after 6 weeks you'll be fine.

Maybe a more realistic view because then I would feel better in the long term knowing everything is normal.

All I got was some dermal wash for shower and bath to aid healing. Good result

It took me a long time to feel better. The magic 6 week date is bollocks. It takes as long as it takes. Chin up - it's an excuse to watch telly x

Sorry for reviving, 3 weeks on and they're a lot better externally but still agony to go, particularly towards the end - don't remember this from when I had them with dc1 and I'd remember this pain. Any advice on particular foods to avoid or good diet links for haemm? I'm going to Dr again on Tuesday. Still using scheriproct and fibrogel, is that normal at 3 wks pp? Sorry can't talk about this with RL friends etc!

anusol. best post-partum remedy. drink lots of water. and sit on a warm pad or 'warm' hot water bottle.

I was given Instillagel when mine got unbearable - it's an anaesthetic gel and literally numbs the area it touches. It came in individually wrapped syringes and also lubricated to help number 2s pass more smoothly.

You have my full sympathies - I'm pregnant at the moment and dreading the return of my 'bum lumps'.

It's fab isn't it? Embarrassing and bloody painful - I've become obsessed with porridge :) this alone would put me off a dc3!

Ice ice baby...

Wrap some ice into some sandwich bags. Wrap again, and put directly onto the piles. They should shrink like a good un. I ended back at the hospital days later after dd1's birth. Like you I couldn't sit down, and bf was a nightmare as I couldn't get comfortable. They used to vibrate too so kept me awake when I all I needed was some sleep. Oh and try and get some anti inflamitory drugs like diclofenac (sp?) to hopefully relax the blood circulation in your piles. Beautiful.

I wouldn't suggest doing this without medical advice first if you are healing from childbirth but DH suffers from piles and since we moved to our new home with a bath a fortnight ago, he's been having shallow warm baths with Dettol! He said its really helped already, think it's the antibacterial properties but it doesn't smell pleasant! As I'm 18 weeks pg I make sure I stay downstairs to avoid the rather potent fumes, I'm sure I have it all to look forward to!
