Hello - first pregnancy, don't live near family moved to belper and trying to find out best place to have baby.

Midwife said i have loads of options - think i want to have the baby in hospital because as my first - don't have a clue what to expect but which one? Derby city - kingways centre is new but temporary whilst under construction and don't know anything about the nottingham hospitals.

Anyone had good / bad experiences at either Derby or Nottingham - help me make up my mind?

Thanks

I have just had a baby at Derby. I was under consultant care so spent a lot of time there! The antenatal care was a bit disorganised to be honest. But the actual birth and postnatal care was very good. I had a very suppportive midwife and all the staff in the postnatal ward introduced themselves and were very helpful.

Also consider the midwife unit at Matlock/Darley Dale- if there is so much of a hint of a problem they will transfer you to the hospital either in pregnancy or labour. I would have liked to have gone there but needed consultant care. There is also a hospital at Chesterfield. The only thing to consider with hospitals further away is the length of time it will take you to have scans/check ups there and also when the labour starts.

BTW, there is a thriving NCT group in Belper (across Amber Valley), if you have no family/friends with children nearby or are new then they are worth getting in touch with as a way to meet people in your situation.

Good Luck!
